Dance Studio Solo Showcase $200 Fee?

$200 for an in-studio event is on the high side of expected IME. Not outrageous, but flirting with, “No, thanks, I’ll just spectate.”

But YMMV.

I thought I had replied to this post, but I don't see my reply so I will add again.

I live in large Midwest (USA) city. I single solo at one of my Studio's showcases would cost me $50.00.
Itemized that's $20.00 admission and $30.00 for the dance. Preparation for the solo is done in my private lessons. I don't get any formal feedback on my performance. I think my teacher tries to push an envelope that she feels I can bust through as part of showcase prep, but even if I'm skipping the showcase that still goes on. I recently did 11 un-choreographed heats versus a single solo in the last showcase. That cost me $295.00. Itemized, that's $20.00 admission and $25.00 per heat.

I think my teacher is compensated with a chunk of my per heat payment (I've never asked). There is light fare food for attendees available. There's no paid photographer or video. The MC is one instructors at the studio. I'm sure he is being paid, but not like a pro TV or radio announcer would be. It's held in studio, so no outside rental expense.

The teacher and I are known for elaborate prop driven solos. The owner helps with our choreography and has never asked for extra money for his time. Our numbers have a reputation for being funny and different so I think he enjoys working on them and they may even put a few butts in the chairs. We're done 9 so far and next month is the 4th anniversary of our teacher/student partnership.
I realized why I didn't see my reply. You asked this same question on Reddit. I replied over there and remember

Ballroom prices are rather insane in the US.
People spend thousands and thousands of dollars just to do a competition.

I think to go cheaper, usually you have to do the independent studio route, or West Coast Swing.

Oh jeez. All day events, dinner, judges,... you guys are talking about a completely different category of event. Our showcases run about two hours. There's finger food. No judges. Costumes, where needed, are rented or improvised. Video is usually shot by one of the staff. We dance, we have fun, we dance some more. Admission for spectators is usually $25. Between sets we grab spectators for social dances.
