What are you excited about in your dancing right now?

Nothing. April was the cruelest month in terms of practice - life got in the way for me and for DP. We'd thought we'd do a comp at the end of May, but we've only practiced maybe six times the whole month. And then last week we learned that there's no "swing" in our swing. So that's awkward...

    Life Skills in Ballroom Dancing

Fasc got to it before I could, but I agree with this one. In my head, I've quit so many times and I keep going back. Just when I think I've made peace with the process, I find my nasty inner voice whispering to quit. I never listen. Mostly it's just ticked off that I can't "get it" immediately...

    USA Dance resignations

No - I'm saying I have no desire to attend a pro-am comp as an am-am couple. The best thing that's happened to my dancing is not dancing pro-am - all the money I had to put toward paying the astronomical fees of attending pro-am comps now gets funneled into my lessons. I don't need a five star...

    USA Dance resignations

This thread made me look up the NDCA comp calendar. Things have changed since I looked this into up last. While there are more am-am events listed, and there are more than before on the east coast - the am-am comps are nearly all attached to colleges and hosted by those colleges' ballroom teams...

    more nitty gritty

I do not know where the USA Dance Nationals judges live. I can only tell you the countries listed next to their names in the program. I made an assumption based on what I read. Now I'm even more confused. Why list "Germany" next to your name if you live HERE? And maybe/possibly/probably have US...

    $100 for One-Hour Workshop

I took a coaching with a world 10-dance champion - who is now an adjudicator - a long, long time ago. It was my first outside coaching. $175 for 50 minutes. I'm sure $75 or $50 of that went to the studio that hosted him. But that 50 minutes was a terrible investment. He held a cup of coffee the...

    more nitty gritty

I've only been a USAD member for three years, so I've joined in the middle of the organization's major meltdown. I understand why, in the International styles, we'd want 50% WDSF judges. But I do not believe for one second International (geographically AND stylistically) judges brought over from...

    more nitty gritty

Respectfully, as a competitor, I'd like "most of those people" on the judging panel to adjudicate the pros and RS a few times a year, all across the country; to judge the top pro-am couples at a variety of events of various sizes across the country. etc. :) These are the judges who know what's...
