I have rarely even seen contested. Occasionally 2 couples, e.g. once there was another couple our level from the same studio. A full final would shock me. Semis I would have to see to believe, for syllabus am/am over 25 or 30 years old at NDCA, in any of the four styles.
But if those cotested heats are out there, it would be nice to know!
(And in previous posts, I have been using the word senior to cover dancers over 30 or so. But yes, in NDCA the age groups will have different names. And the age brackets vary from comp to comp, too.)

All we need to do is get syllabus dancers to all show up. Complaining that comp x or y has low entries is not the fault of the comp, but really is the dancers that can solve this issue.

This thread made me look up the NDCA comp calendar. Things have changed since I looked this into up last. While there are more am-am events listed, and there are more than before on the east coast - the am-am comps are nearly all attached to colleges and hosted by those colleges' ballroom teams. I'm curious as to the level of senior participation at those events, if the number of seniors is at all like the senior participation at an NQE. Because attending a collegiate comp as a senior isn't appealing to me if there's no one over 30 there.
I noticed that Millennium has amateur events listed - closed and open events. Compmgr won't load the into for last year's results so I have no idea how contested any of the amateur events were. But having attended Millennium as a pro-am dancer, I know that I have ZERO intention of returning to Millennium to dance as an amateur - gorgeous comp... More expensive than I can afford to do again - even as an amateur. In fact, that's really my attitude at dancing as an amateur at any pro-am event. Between the location, the package, the cost per heat, etc., pro-am comps have a look and feel and amenities I don't desire as an amateur.
And in my partnership's very early stage, we danced a few pro-am comps before going strictly amateur. And we had zero competition in closed events. None. We were on the floor with pro-am couples.

Danced am am at millennium four years ago. Uncontested in over 35 smooth and one couple in Latin.

No - I'm saying I have no desire to attend a pro-am comp as an am-am couple. The best thing that's happened to my dancing is not dancing pro-am - all the money I had to put toward paying the astronomical fees of attending pro-am comps now gets funneled into my lessons. I don't need a five star hotel, a "show of shows!", fancy sit-down dinners, etc etc etc that pro-am comps consist of. It costs too much to be an am dancing at a pro-am comp.

S2k. All that glitz is a la carte. You can buy a ticket for the day, enter your events , dance and go
Obviously regional variance but at emerald in Sunday. Drive up in afternoon. Dance over 35 smooth over 35 Latin and over 50 Latin. Finish at 1130 pm. If so desire drive 2 hrs home. Three multis all contested. Done. Cheaper that even a USA dance event. Sure it's few and far between but we as dancers could grow this

Manhattan Dancesport Championship in July, no fee to enter the ballroom for your heat, world class environment, open to the world, and july 4 weekend to hang out in Brooklyn. All senior couples, we can all coordinate en masse for this event... And if you are in the local area, subway ride to and from...

Provo doesn't have any time in their schedule for more events. Any syllabus offerings are for elementary school and high school programs and the BYU Ballroom program. So no adult or senior syllabus, and no senior American Style. Of course it could change, two years ago they didn't even offer adult championship Rhythm. But I don't see where they would fit it honestly.
