1-3 of the Natural Turn

The first step of the first dance! (in most cases)
Surely, this is one of the most discussed steps of all. From the way we set it up, into the prep step and then the Natural Turn itself, this one pattern can be important to your success. I would love to get some more feedback about what YOU are thinking when you do a Natural Turn. :)

I'm also curious who starts it without a prep step. Was told by a very famous coach that it is unnecessary.

It is unnecessary, but advantageous to flight and softness. What do I think about? Depending upon whether it is waltz or fox...the left swinging across the LOD.

It's a very informative exercise to learn how to make it big without a prep step. You learn a lot about descending while moving your body through and beyond the standing leg.

at this stage, we use the optional prep step.

we start our waltz routine with a natural turn, so for now, i think about...

1)contra body movement during prep step and
2)keep the hips tucked under...

I think “God I hate this step”

Then I think “move through centre and keep going straight until my lady and the sway turns me.”

I usually think "Run the lady over". It's the same as dance through the lady but it works better for me.
