So Today is the Day. The day I celebrate my 10th anniversary in dance.
So here is my story.
In the summer of 1998 was preparing to go on a cruise.
I thought it would be a good idea to learn a few dance steps. I scheduled a free lesson at both AM and FADS. I went to the lesson at AM and had a good time. The next night I had a lesson scheduled at FADS. I was having problems at work. I call up the Studio and talked to the manager. He asked if I could make a 9:30PM lesson. Little did I know it was the luckiest day of my life that I was able to make it.
I got to the studio and meet the manager and studio director (a former undefeated US Champion).
Then I was introduced to the teacher. This was the first time I meet Sunshine.
From the very beginning you could tell that this was a very special young lady. We clicked right away.
At the end of the lesson I realized that the FADs studio I was going to was much better the AM studio and signed up for their 5 lesson special.
I started working on their Social Foundation Program. I attended my first Studio Party on October 2nd, 2008. At the party the Studio owner announced that The FADS NY/NJ and New England regions we holding a competition. He told us that we would be competing against people of our own experience and Age. So it didn’t matter if you’ve 100 lessons or 50 lessons or 25 lessons or even 10. And then out of the depths of the studio can a shout saying “OR EVEN 3”. Of course that was Sunshine and by the end of the night I signed up for My First Comp.
I went on the Cruise on November 1st and at every opportunity I was on the dance floors practicing my steps. I came back to the Studio on Nov. 9th and started to get ready for the Comp on Nov. 12th – 15th. I had a blast at the comp (even though when I look back at the tape I cringe how bad I was).
So without going into my whole history. Though dozens of comps, hundreds of entries, thousands of lesson and coaching’s with some of the finest dancers in the country. From my first Showcase “Whatever Lola Wants” to my most recent “When you good to MAMA”. This has been a great 10 years.
And to Sunshine, you are a great dancer, a wonderful teacher and a good friend. I take so much joy in seeing you grow into the Champion you are and one of the most Special People I have ever meet.
So let’s start or next 10 years.
