2005 Grammy Awards

This year's Grammy Awards are the best I've ever seen in my life! They decided to go back to the roots of what made music what we have come to love, and I just want to say congrats to the music industry for this amazing production.

My favorites in no particular order...

-the opening (some have suggested it was too many bands, too many genres, completely missing the point )
-Joss Stone and Melissa Etheridge (Wow!)
-Alicia Keys & Jamie Foxx
- John Mayer (I just love that song)

I missed it. Did Jamie Foxx sing? I saw a picture of him at the piano. He sang and played? :?

And Ray Charles won a ton of stuff. Apparently, his latest album wasn't a critical success, but the write-ups are saying he won for sentimental reasons. Too bad he's not around to enjoy the accolades, for whatever reason he got them. :?

He and Alicia sang and played "Georgia"

RE: People not deserving to win:

The Grammys have a limited number of awards. Every year, someone complains about someone else not deserving the accolade. This is amuses to me because during the 11 other months of the year, the Grammys are "lame" and not really an accurate gauge of what's going on in today's music market.

Ray Charles deserved every Grammy he got.

That's my take, too. 8) Whether or not his latest, posthumous album earned the awards on its own critical merit, I can't say. But I know he earned them. He was a legend who shaped American music as it exists today. :notworth:

Melissa Etheridge KICKED BUTT! What a great voice! Joss stone is still young & her voice will develop, but was good! Alicia Keys & Jamie Fox absolutely amazing! My favorite, John Mayer, what a voice, and a fantastic blues guitarist!

I thought the lumping of all those genres was a massive project to attempt, but it was pulled off very well(on cable here in Japan, we got "the making of"...for this part of the program and I could not even imagine the stress the head sound technician had!)

Was halfway through the program(I recorded it) and my husband gets out his guitar & starts playing so I will watch the rest of it tonight. :D

I missed Melissa (musta been when Desperate Houswives was on??), but I did get to see Alicia Keyes (she is fantab!) and Jamie Foxx. I was interested to see how JLo would do since she always lip syncs. I think her husband has the better voice....although I get this strange feeling that he's a complete control freak.

The Lynyrd Skynrd thing was kind of interesting. I really liked them way back when....

Lopez usually has a decent voice(I have a CD w/a duet with her & Anthony) but she sung terribly on the grammies. Lynyrd Skynyrd was great, too! I remember seeing them when I was like 14, and I was just getting into rock! They are still amazing! Hardly recognized John Paul Jones, but Jimmy Page hasn't changed all that much in 30 years!

Well, from what I hear JLo is completely produced, meaning she can't sing well live (like Madonna, IMO). Of course, it's probably hard to sing well with all that booty shakin' going on.

As for Lynyrd Skynyrd, I too loved them growing up (loved the little Neil Young feud thingy). But how many of their members actually survived the plane crash? I didn't think it was many of them. I remember they came up with another band (Rossington Collins??) with the leftover guys.

I believe it was just two of the Skynyrd guys that survived. Just finished watching the last hour of the video! Usher and "The Sex Machine" sure danced up a storm! Now that's what I call cool!

Really glad John Mayer got that award, 'cause he's soooo cool!

Sorry to hear about the passing of Rick James! I had not heard he died. (Superfreak was such a hit when I was too young to drink but still sneaking into clubs with my fake ID! Loved that song!)

All those drugs will eventually catch up with you -- except for Mick Jagger, who seems to have "pickled" fine. LOL!

I wish I had taped it. Does anyone know if they air it again?

Edited to substitute "Keith Richards" for "Mick Jagger"!
