2014 NDCA Amateur Championships

'over 35' is called senior 1 in the amateur world.

Even in the amateur world, senior dance is under appreciated, tho. Since senior events outnumber 'adult' events 4 to 1, and contribute many times the amount of dues and fees at comps, but are usually marginalized by promoters (putting their events in the afternoon, or using a second string judging panel) many senior competitors are absent from some bigger events, since they collaborate and discuss where to go to be treated well... which makes them sometimes invisible to thedance public. However, on the world stage, Senior dance is a big deal - events with over 200 Senior couples competing are not unusual in Europe. And yes, the standard is very high -

Exactly. NDCA, to their credit, recognizes the shabby treatment they have accorded amateur seniors and is the reason for the new NDCA amateur-only circuit initiating in 2013 with the first National Finals in April 2014.

No - it's scheduled for Apr 25-27, 2014 in Lousiville. Winners go to the WDC Worlds in Paris in Dec.

that is all there is internationally. The Worlds does not have American Style events.

i knew that

my point is that if its NDCA affiliated it should have all 4 as most ndca comps do however if its only WDC affiliated it will only be Intl

i cannot find that info on thier website help please

Amateur Grand Prix
Amateur Grand Prix is a series of dance competitions held in four geographic locations, more to be added, culminating in a Grand Finale to be held in Louisville, KY at The Galt House, April 25-27, 2014. The organizers of the Louisville leg of the series are Charles Hardin, Linda Jackson and Chase Abell. The Louisville competition will be called “Dance For The Roses” as the competition is held during the Kentucky Derby Festival.

Other organizers are:
Northern AGP Ronen Zinshtein
Eastern AGP Spencer and Elena Nyemchek
Southern AGP Bob Riebe
Western AGP To be announced

The AGP is sanctioned by the NDCA Amateur Division which is a new division of the long established NDCA. We are very happy to be a part of the Amateur Grand Prix as it brings even more dancing to the Amateurs across the country and allows us here in Louisville to have a competition every year.
We will have a website www.amateurgrandprix.com that will be updated on a regular basis. It is under construction now so there is nothing to view, but check back in about a month.

Point of clarification: will dancers have to choose between doing USA Dance and the AGP, or can they do both?

More competitions strikes me as good.
Two competition circuits where competitors cannot cross over would strike me as bad.

There is still in the 'code of ethics' of WDSF that you agree to not do any comps that are unsanctioned by WDSF, with penalties. They are dragging their heels on changing this (they cite procedural issues but in reality it still exists no matter what reasoning for leaving it in) so we at this point assume that USA Dance, a member of WDSF, has this thinking too, despite claiming it is not to be enforced. Hopefully 'freedom to dance' becomes real and not a political game currently being played between organizations...

My guess here is: no crossover.

<snip b/c of what bailamos said>

Also, looks to me like the NDCA is planning to tap into the "senior" amateur pool. Judging by what I'm reading elsewhere, USADance doesn't care terribly much about seniors. So, it may be that it'll shake down to two amateur competition circuits, de facto one for younger amateurs, one for <cough> less young amateurs.

(I mean, seriously, on what planet is 35 "senior"?)

Eh, as much as I'll joke about how silly it is that I'm now a "senior", it's not a bad place to have an age division. At larger NDCA comps with A, B and C divisions for their scholarships, the dividing line between A and B is generally 36 years old.

thank you akita for the info

you can currently dance am am at ndca and still dance am am at USA dance so i dont believe you wont be able to cross over
