A choreography idea is stuck in my head!

Call me crazy, but a modern choreography of "Higher Grounds" by Red Hot Chili Peppers is stuck in my head!
It's sort of jazzy, with lots of hips, crazily high adrenaline, lots of kicking, jumping, rolling on the floor. Style is that 80's (90's?) legwarmers and leotard dancers sort of thing.
I can't get it out of my head. I've counted the 1-8 counts and there are 54 "1-8"s. I've thought it out and I have lots and lots of ideas. A group of 10 people would do. I have the patterns in my head, the general feeling, the "plot", if I may say so.
This could be great. Or a huge disaster.
Am I crazy? Too much ballroom? Too many dance movies? Too much disco music? Am I going to be doing Saturday Night Fever impersonations soon?
Insanity.

RHCP's version of "Higher Ground" is great for a high-energy jazz or acro group piece. You're definitely not out of your mind, Elena. Give it a go! :)

Sounds good TE. I do that all the time when listening to music...visualizing awesome dance routines and stuff. Problem is I usually do that while driving, and that can be distracting sometimes :)

Acro... Nah. More like a high-energy jazz. Nice description of it. :D
I might give a try at choreographing it and then perhaps suggesting that we do it at the modern dance group at my ballroom studio. My teacher is into it a lot, so I could tell her. Credits to me, of course. ;) Though I've seen them do pop songs all the time (Usher's "Yeah" springs to mind) they might give it a go. Might. *shrug*

Sounds like fun!

You're not going crazy! It is completely normal to have choreography stuck in your head...at least for me it's normal. I'm finding more and more lately I can't even turn the radio on without some choreography popping into my head for various songs.

There's an asian inspired song right now that I can't get out of my head. I want to choreography a "jungle" dance to it with individuals dressed up as animals. The animals would dance with particular beats of music and instruments (i.e. the heavy pound could be the elephant, the sound that makes you want to jump around like crazy could be the monkey, etc.) Everytime I put in the CD I can visualize the set, costumes, dance steps, etc. It's amazing.

Hillary Duff's Metamorpasis is having a similar affect on me right now as well.

The best advice I can offer is to get your thoughts on paper. This might help you add on or perhaps begin thinking about other things.

I'm always imagining dancing to the music I'm listening to - and, like caityrosey, it's usually while I'm driving . . . someone needs to keep us dancers off the road . . .

I have! I now have 5 (mostly empty) pages with numbers 1-56 (this is how many 1-8 counts there are in the song). I've colour/otherwise coded them in groups of 2, 4 and 8, depending on the phases of the song: very intense, main theme, cheery, etc. I've got some parts figured out while others are a daze, but I'm on the right tracks. ;)
I'm really digging into this! I'll start checking out videoclips and dance scenes to get inspiration, but I've got the plot and feeling: "Dancers break free from stiff routines and rock the heck out of it!". :D

Delamusica - I hear ya! I am constantly thinking up choroegraphy and/or dancing while I'm driving. Probably not the safest thing. Sometimes I can't even figure out how I got from point A to point B!

Twilight Elena - All the best! Keep a notebook handy all the time, and just fill in things as they come to you. Don't force the choreography where you're blank...it's come.

Have you seen the film, "Center Stage". It has a sequence in it danced in a New York studio to the RHCP song "Higher Ground". All I really remember of it is the ending featuring a lot of turns, oh and a lot of jumps throughout. It was, as you described, very high energy!

I love Center Stage! Probably my favorite dance movie...it's the one that made me want to be a dancer. I haven't watched it in forever...perhaps tonight.
