A Curious Detail

:uplaugh:

It seems to me it's a case of can't chew gum and walk at the same time. The semi-visible expression on his face, the still legs and arm are a giveaway.

Obviously this is a total guess on my part, but it looks like he's just keeping his hand ready to catch her in case she falls off-balance during that longer-than-normal series of fast spins.

Just watched and enjoyed http://youtube.com/watch?v=uCrJXw9wIB8&mode=related&search=

... but what is he doing with his left hand from 1:50 to 1:54? Is he expecting her to take his hand? Is he molesting her while her hands are tied? Is he giving her contact to help her orient herself on the spin? Has he momentarily lapsed concentration and forgotten to style the hand?

I vote for #4: he has momentarily lapsed concentration and forgotten to style the hand.

it does look like he's tapping her with that wrist, doesn't it? weird. i can't say i've seen that before.

i liked the body rolls - sexy. the whole clip was very smooth and relaxed, which is quite a feat. v. advanced dancing.

I could be wrong but I noticed that same sort of motion on one of my practice clips, when leading alot of spins my free hand sortve moves the same way. When i did see it I thought damn, i gotta fix that.

watch that bodyrolll action, OneCent, i want you to lay that on me next time!

i ALWAYS miss that lead, i just stand there like a tree while the guy does some beautiful roll. i really want to fix that.

yah, that's a nice clip. the hand looks like its poised there as if maybe he meant to give her a little additional momentum (i've certainly felt guys do that to me, like trying to keep a frisbee spinning), but he's not really doing that action.

anyway, totally agree with alemana... v nice dancing. smooth. great body rolls. nice connection.

has me thinkin i shouldn'ta skipped my salsa class last night...!

now that i think about it, i definitely have been tapped as i go around in multiple spins... it's mostly a stylistic thing on the guy's part, rather than functional. the tap is very, very light.

Did it help you keep your orientation?

Maybe I will email Milton. "Uh Hi Mr. Cobo. You don't know me, but I've decided to take up your valuable time asking you about the movement of a few of your body joints for about 3.5 seconds a couple years back..."

no, it did not. it isn't really functional, and it's only a move for a pretty advanced guy with LOTS of control - if he taps with any nuance of haphazardness, it could be a really big no-no on a lot of levels. it's got to be symbolic only.

i don't really enjoy feeling like an object, like a toy that the guy is spinning (not to mention the fact that i'm spinning my own damn self anyway) so i would approach this particular stylistic move with caution if i were a leader.
