a Good Time to Visit Buenos Aires?

I think it's all talk - Kirchner's trying to divert attention from her mess by stirring up national(ist) sentiment is all.

i hope you're right. One Argentine expressed an opinion that their own army was rubbish and were no match for Brits with their combat experience. But its tough watching an oil reserve being taken from under your nose.

I just hope the Argentine customs don't subject me to an invasive bodysearch upon seeing my British passport when I go to BsAs in a couple of weeks! :-)

I'm always right.

To be honest, the total spare capacity in the British Army at the moment is about 2 corporals on sick leave. But any military encounter in the Falklands would be mainly naval, and the British Navy is somewhat underused in Afghanistan at the moment. Not to mention the fact that the islands themselves are heavily-defended now.

I might feel some sympathy, but for the fact that the Argentine government - led by Mr Kirchner at that time - tore up an oil revenue-sharing deal with the UK in 2007, for cheap nationalist points at the time, to divert the Argentine people from the crisis they were having then.

They're now whingeing, for cheap nationalist points now, to divert the Argentine people from the crisis they are having right now.

So my sympathy for the Kirchner regime is pretty low.

Far more importantly, I'm semi-considering a trip there at the end of the year, so I'll be well-miffed if there's a war.
