A Life Saver?

Most of us who dance a little will claim that dancing has changed us in some way, either profound or not. So here's a question for you, how many of you can claim that dancing was literally a life saver?

not I, but know of some others who were in bad enough shape before, and good enough after, that they can honestly claim that

not for me, because i am dancing for a long time, and I started as a kid. but as a teacher i see how some of my students are changing and how their life is changing.

not a life saver, but definitely a life finder. :)

I have to say... dance is both a life saver and finder... being really close to 200lbs over weight at the start...:( and now making the attempt at the last 70 or so:bouncy:... Yeah... it's saved me.

It's also brought me out of my shell and introduced me to a really familiar style community... and just made it feel better to live.

So inspiring to hear, kat. Happy for you!

Thanks Sam!
You know....if you keep DFing from your BB...I just may be prompted to get one myself... I only log in from home/work and MAN... 10 hours away from here and the whole world of posts change!! :-)

Get one, Kat! Or some other phone with internet. It's so nice to be remote and still connected.

BOT, I was also heavy previously, and on my way down when I discovered dance. I didn't realize at the time how deep the wormhole would go, tho. ;)

Love your story Kat, and that was one of my thoughts, but figured you could tell your own. :)

Lost good chunk of weight myself, though i can't claim your story.

Even without the weight loss, it's fun and addictive, would stick with it anyway. :)

jury is still out for me...there are ways in which dancing has saved my life and ways in which is has probably shortened my life...and I will leave it at that...but like most things a person loves there is good and bad, and most of the time it is worth it

No it did not save me, but it is great that it can do so for people. I wish more people that are in a dire position can have such an experience.

I don't know if it saved my life exactly. I have a pretty serious case of arthritis at 23. I was diagnosed officially back in January, I couldn't walk, couldn't feed myself, and couldn't lift my arm to roll over in bed. It was awful on my self esteem and outlook on life. I finally got cleared up (enough to walk and gain control over my knees and elbows) around March and took my first dance lesson in April. Since I started dancing in April, I've cut out all of my medicines except one and I rarely have a bad flare up. I'm dancing sometimes 5 nights a week! I truly believe dance has helped tremendously with my arthritis and I'm so grateful for it. It's changed my outlook on life back to what it was before the diagnosis, probably even made it a bit more positive.

Dance has consumed my life, I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

Life saver? No. Life improver? Yes.

Started as a way to spend more time with my ex-SO then gave me incentive to terminate a less than satisfying relationship with her. I do sometimes wonder about my balance - I gave up tennis and biking pretty much and spend 5 days a week at the studio.
