A new Salsa Congress - Bucharest, Romania!

Free water, or at least water available all day during the classes and in the evenings.

Name tags for people to wear in the classes, so you can remember names when you ask people to dance later.

Encourage the local good dancers to dance with everyone who comes out to dance in the evening, especially the newbies.

Rotate partners.
After every new moment in a pattern. It is not enough after 10 minutes. The lady that hasn't been dancing get to stressed to catch up.

Rotation is best achieved by putting a member of the local staff in every classroom reminding the teachers (he/she should of course help both teachers and students with other issues). And tell the teachers in advance.

(AT the Gothenburg congress we had tihis system. Although there was just about 30% more girls I stood still about half the time and that is not good enough. I think some of the girls who had danced with a guy took next guy instead of leaving him to a girl who hadn't danced. The crowded room was a problem for fair rotation.)

Take a separate chat with Jazzy about rotation.
At the congress in Gothenburg he decided not to rotate because there was too much people in the classroom. We who hadn't a guy of our own had to leave the class  (I was so mad mad mad at him. And I was too late for another class)

Encourage great teachers to dance with everybody.
Tell everyone that they are welcome to dance with the teachers. (Albert Torres did this at the congress in Gothenburg.)

This is awesome. How is the salsa scene there? I've done some browsing but all the references I was able to find were towards the "cuban style" salsa. Is NY style popular there too, how's the crowd?

I will visit Romania sometime in August, I'd love to do some dancing there.

Thanks for the encouragements guys...

Englezul, we dance here CBL style (I wouldn't call it LA). Some also dance Cuban.

NY style is non-existent. I can follow, and there is a friend of mine who is leading, but that's about it. :) Nobody to teach it here. There are also other 2 girls who can follow.

If you want, email me or send me a PM and we can chat about your coming. I'd like to help you discover the local Salsa scene. I hope you are not coming in the period 8-15, as I am in Barcelona. But it doesn't matter, my friends who stay will take good care of you.

That sounds great. I'm going to be there for two weeks starting with 16-17, but don't know as of now when exactly I will be in Bucharest. But I would not leave the country without hitting the salsa scene at least for one night...so I'
ll keep in touch, it would be great to meet the romanian salseros.

I'll have more news soon! :) Things are looking good. :)

Isn't Romania where the Vampires are??! j/k.

A small stage for the instructor would be awesome. That way the people in the back of the class can see the instructor's footwork.

peace and light..

NY style and Congress

I am one of the teachers of a newly opened dance school in Bucharest, Romania. I teach on2, as do all of my instructors, and I love to dance to it. I teach on2 NY style and Mambo, as well as Clave style, which is a less known Puerto Rican style of Salsa, that developed more in NY and South Florida. I also teach on1 LA Style and Miami-Style Rueda based on specific Syllabi.

I'd wish there were more dancers knowledgeable in on2 styles here, but maybe together we'll remedy that problem soon.

As regards to the congress, there is actually a congress before then in Romania, organized by 4 Romanian salsa schools in partnership. The website will be up in a few weeks: romaniansalsacongress (dot) com and it will include pricing information, hotel info, and the entire schedule and list of instructors.

At this time, among the confirmed instructors are: Edie (The Salsa Freak), Nelson Flores, Magna Gopal, Shaka Brown, Ismael Otero, Claudio Pacheco, Uwem Ekpo and Jorge from Latin Beat Dance Studios, and Tony Duarte. Many more to come soon to the list.

I know you're all confused about the names, but both events will take place and we encourage you to attend both. There was a slight misunderstanding with the names. You can also find details about this event on Edie's World Salsa Calendar and on the International Salsa Federation website.

Enjoy and stay tuned!
