A question...?

I was dancing a waltz during a huge group lesson with my teacher (Who is a 5 time aus champ ) and he told me that I was "so light" to dance with. Then he leads me into this turn, I had no idea what I was doing but took his lead anyway and finished it smoothly, he then wanted to know if I learnt that move before..when I told him him no, he said "oh youre going to be good" then he walked away to take another student. I was a little offended to begin with because I wanted to be goo NOW but now I take it as a compliment, but Im totally confused by the first!
What does light mean? Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

That's an excellent thing ShyDancer! Way to go you! :D

Seriosuly, "light" means that he only need to provide you with a basic indication and that you were very responsive to it. The dreaded counterpart to this, being "heavy," is when the guy has to physically muscle you into the move to get to you do go in the direction he wants. Believe me, light is the way to go!!!

Also, as far as the "going to be..." thing, remember, this is a multiple time national champ saying this to you! His version of "good" is bound to be head and shoulders above most peoples standards of the same thing... I have no doubt at all that you must already be quite good to get such comments from him. Just do a quick mental translation from his comments to the language of us dance mortals and it sounds like it roughly translates to "hey, you're really good... and man, talk about potential for real excellence..." So good on you! :D

That is fantastic ShyDancer! Gives you real high when you get that sort of compliment from someone in the know.

My instructor brags about me :oops: even to the point that one of the other instructors told me that I could follow anything, even before she had seen me dance! :shock: I was a little taken aback at first, but now I just feel appreciated and special. It's nice to know that he doesn't dread our lessons because he thinks as highly of me (abilitywise) as I do of him. I know I'll get the best instruction possible.

Looks like you are heading down the same path ShyDancer! Enjoy it. I have found it to be a huge confidence boost (as long as you don't start getting too big for your boots!). :wink:

Aww dont you guys know how to make a girl feel special :) :)

Thanks for givng me some insight! I wondered for ages what light meant.....I came to the conclusion that it meant I wasnt stepping properly and I needed to be more grounded...hehehe Im glad I have you guys!

Now Im beginning to wonder if I should have gone for the standard medals instead of the latin ones! :?: :?:
Next time eh?

Yes you have a gift there, sounds like you're a natural. I dance with ladies who are used to being shoved around and they just don't respond to a light lead, but I don't want to dance like I'm moving furniture around, but I'm persistent so I start with something they can 'feel' and slowly make it less and less and they get used to it.

Once in a while a dream girl like you comes along.........

did I do something wrong??
Not really... although I've now fixed it for you.

What you had was:
Code:
[quote="name"] ...text... qoute]
when what you needed was:
Code:
[quote="name"] ...text... [/qoute]
Note the [/quote] at the close of the correct coding.

Well, you can look at it this way--you dance enough with the ladies who are used to being yanked, that's much less time you have to spend at the gym. Then a girl like ShyDancer comes along and makes you feel a little less like your working on the docks. Best of both worlds, no? :wink:

ShyDancer, you need to travel--we could use more ladies like you in the states, at least where I live!

Cheers,

Genesius

Id love to travel and dance with everyone... my fear of flying is certain hampering that idea though! :lol: :lol: :lol: But I think we need more light dancers at my studio as well :lol: During some progressive NV tonight I was thrown around so badly by some of the guys that it was a struggle to keep my feet on the floor! (Im small to begin with! I am 163cm and 51.kg (..about 5ft 3 and 110lb in US conversions!)) I had to wonder if they enjoyed moving furniture! :roll: :roll:

Don't worry about flying, after we rob the bank the plan is to travel by boat to Australia. We'll pick you up on the way. (You'll have to find your own way to the coast.)
