A Salsa Approach to PEACE

Dear Salseras and Salseros,

Let's all dance to life's rhythm...not the shooting and killing kind ...and not to the sounds of gun shots, bombs, or death cries...'cause war surely lacks a peaceful tempo.

Let's move instead to those soothing salsa beats...1.2.3...5.6.7, the ones that make our world go 'round in Cuba, Belgium, USA, and the other myriad countries listening to the clave.

Let's transform the darkness that swallows our inhumane souls and the blood that drowns them into those mysterious and passionate, not to mention lively black and red jazzy steps... 1.2.3...5.6.7...

And while we dance, let's invite angry souls to move their war on the dance floor to challenge them to step into the drums' beats...1.2.3...5.6.7...and unleash the talent they never thought they had.

And if the dance floor becomes too crowded, let's make a larger one, a beautiful surface where the toes and heals of Christians, Muslims, Hindis, Jewish and Buddhits can step, shuffle, stomp, slip, shine, and slide.

To make sure the heat emanating from such an atmosphere does not stop them from dancing, let's also host our event outside where we can all see the stars and listen to live music that moves the trees and surrounding wildlife.

Of course, some of the new salseras and salseros might dance differently and touching or holding hands might not be appropriate at first, but we can all learn to move to a common rhythm...1.2.3...5.6.7... even if shoulders move one way and hips move the other...

Together we can dance the way we love...
so that we love the way we dance together...

(I've been dancing a lot lately, guys. More than I ever have. I realize that I've been blasting my music and just stepping into turns around my room to sooth the turmoil that is going on in my world, the one that I used to think was so far from the realities occuring in the Middle East. I also realized that the world I am referring to is closer to me because the innocent people who are displaced, killed, and injured on a daily basis are in my thoughts...and thoughts are as close as I can bring myself to such brave souls right now, since I live across the Atlantic Ocean in the United States. Although I wish I could do more, I know that at least I can dance for those who are affected by war. So when we're in New York this month or any other Congress, let's dance salsa to unite our steps ( even if you dance 1 or 2!) in the name of PEACE!)

Oh my god what a coincidence! I already had a plan to have a salsa "Give Peace A Chance!" T shirt made up tomorrow... but that was only about salsa turf wars between the on1 and on2 crowds! You've added a whole new dimension...

Any good deals on custom shirts? I've been to all the online sites and have a friend locally who can hook me up with a good price. Just wondering.

Well, I called it a plan, it was more an intention really. I know of a place near me and was just going to rustle up some artwork, wander in and see whether it was possible/affordable.

I'm getting more tshirt ideas now, but unfortunately they use other people's intellectual property.

However a colleague mentioned he has a CD called "Give Peace a Dance" - that slogan might go down well in the salsa world :-)

cool. Typically in the 10-quantity range, a 2-color printing will be somewhere around $15/shirt. So it's affordable, if you can get a few people to take some shirts off your hands.
