Advice needed: How to break into a new tango scene?

I always go to new places alone. It's only a matter of getting the first dance. I've never had a problem in Germany, Scotland, or London and I just find it hard to visualise Italians not approaching a single lady. I mean how would that happen?

Ha ha. You're probably right, though Italians do tend to like moving in packs which puts a "loner" at a slight social disadvantage.

Funnily enough, last night at the lesson some people were going to a milonga and asked me along without me even having to ask (though I think I might have been making puppy eyes for a while...).

Got quite a few dances too, also from outside of the group I came along with. So all of you who said "go on your own" were right in that I think it would have been fine as there seem to be quite a few leaders who are happy to take a chance on a newbie.

Very happy and relieved now and going again on Friday. Thanks again for advice.
