Advice on where to go in NY during a short salsa stay?!

Hi

I'm going to be visiting New York (from Europe) for the last two weeks of June - can anyone recommend clubs, events and teachers. I'm (obviously!) keen to improve my on2 dancing but particularly interested in cha cha.

Help!?!? :?

Thanks!

Alemana  not fear! (Sending the recommendations by PM  )

Sydney, check out the Jimmy Anton social which might be on the last Sunday of each month? Some people like it, some people don't. The floor is very smooth aka fast. I did the social (or the social did me  ) on one visit and my On2 has not been the same since! I actually was dancing On1 with someone from London and found myself switching to On2   (I knew then that I was beyond hope! )

Depending on what level you are on, needless to say, Eddie Torres, Mario B and or Thomas Guerrero (both Santo Rico) and as you may know, all three have been to/taught in London. :D

Salsa in NY

As stated by alemana, the single best resource of evnts is the Salsa NY website.
As far as instuctors for cha-cha-cha, you can try Delille Thomas or Frankie Martinez. These are the only people that I personally know off hand that teach cha-cha-cha. I hope this helps and I am sure you will have a great time in NY. We might even cross paths in the dance floor.
:)

NY recommended teachers?

Hey, thanks to those who've replied! On a slightly more specific note, as a woman wanting to learn cha cha, which teacher (male or female) would you recommend for a private lesson?

Thanks again, I appreciate the help!

Am I messing all the fun by saying that there is no need for a teacher to dance cha cha? :?

Anyhow, don't limit yourself, go for both.

BTW. Freddy Rios teaches Cha Cha as well.

Yes, you are messing all the fun :P Remember that not everyone experienced latin dance at the knees of their parents.

Oh the great one speaks :)
I didn't hear/see/dance salsa till ~4 years ago, but I agree with him that lessons aren't that necessary for picking it up...the secret is playing with the music, which easy once you learn any clave-based dances

cha cha cha is very relaxed and playful 8)
