African dances in London

Does anyone know if there are any African dance venues in London? Particularly dances from African countries where Portuguese is the official language (Cape Verde, Angola, etc...) - kizomba, funáná, morna, coladera, etc...
We often dance this sort of thing in salsa venues, since they play it in between the salsa songs. Thanks, I was just wondering!

Hi Tchaguito. Shouldn't you be packing!

Personally, I am not aware of any specific african dance venues - there are places where zouk is played, although my knowledge of dance in London does not extend to that. I am not sure if it is still there, but there used to be an "African Centre" in Covent Garden, which, from recollection, also had a restaurant attached. There might be some information there.

It may unfortunately be a case of Googlying or waiting until you get here to find out where the Portuguese speaking communities gather.

There was a place near Leicester Square/Covent Garden, that did a Brazilian night on a Tuesday. I am not sure if this is still on though (the last time I heard about it/was there on the Tuesday was about four years ago). As I do not know any of the dances you mentioned, the dance would have to "step on my foot and introduce itself" for me to know what it is

Thanks! I'll bring some CD's so you can listen to this sort of thing. It's addicting for us, so I have this secret hope that you and other salsero(a)s might become hooked as well

I guess my packing will be sort of a last minute thing, lol... I'm trying to enjoy the rest of my mini-holidays to the full!

You've probably already thought of this and/or it's a stupid idea, but maybe you'll be able to get some leads by hooking up with the capoeira scene? Wrong continent, but right blend of cultures...?
