Speaking of cases being high: in my area, cases are starting to spike again, and the school district where my nephew teaches has closed down already.

King's Ball in the Northeast is still happening as far as I know and may be a good alternative to Paragon?
My studio family is doing another virtual comp in a few weeks, and another live comp in December.
I'm starting to like the virtual comps because they are so much cheaper then live comps! But yeah, you miss the random socialization and bumping into people like Andrei Gavriliine.

On the upside, the studio is going to do a showcase. I'll do....something. My pro said I must agree to do some "groovy moves". (Calling somethings "groovy moves" actually comes from me. I always end up nicknaming moves, then I don't remember the real names. One move I've nicknamed 'Disney Princess' and so on. He actually remembers what I've nicked named them and uses both terms. )

Based on the name, I'm picturing some type of a spin (twirl), head back, arms up over your shoulders in a sort of wide circle as you turn. What is it really?
I've done the same. I often forget that it's not really called a "straightjacket", the technical term is "sweetheart" or "cuddle". And I took to calling passés "knee triangles". As in, "no, we already have two knee triangles in this routine, we need to figure out a different pose there."
It was in a showcase for last January, so I probably don't remember details now. But I sort of went around him while he was the "center". I felt like I was making a lot of tippy-tap steps compared to moves where I advance. I have no idea what the step is really called!

I love it! I think anyone who thinks it feels like sweetheart or cuddle has longer arms than me! Straightjacket for sure. Not my favorite move, especially socially or in a group class.

LOL! When I do this correctly, it feels like a true cuddle (I guess my arms are long enough). But when I do it wrong, by forgetting what I'm supposed to do so Pro has to force me from behind into the right position, it is most definitely a straitjacket.
Been seeing photos and such over instagram, facebook, studio websites, etc. for Elite Dancesport in Orange County. For the most part, it looks like the comp went off well with masks used extensively including while dancing. Does anyone have any on-site experience to share?
I only noted a handful of photos with individuals with pseudo-masks (*) or mask pulled down to grab a private group photo with big smiles.
(*) One person literally had a small square of plastic about three inches from their mouth and nose. Really?!?!? It's amazing the lengths some people will go to pretend they are compliant.

Oh, hadn't you heard? The virus doesn't spread if all you're doing is smiling for a group photo for a social media post. Masks are totally superfluous...just like they're superfluous if you're attending an event in the Rose Garden, from what I hear.
The group photos seemed mostly safe because they were done privately at their table or in a corner away from everyone. Seemed mostly okay to me, but again would like to know if someone was there.
More troubling was the posting I saw of the lady dancing with a mask that was no more the a credit card size piece plastic in front of their mouth/nose.

I know the organizers are having challenging time to find a way to run comps per the Hollywood video where I am part of the problem. I really wouldn't do a comp unless masks are required 100% of the time.
In thinking about it, maybe organizers can band together and offer comps for different groups. One organizer can have a comp where masks are required at all times (real masks . . . no credit card pieces of plastic) and another organizer can offer a comp with masks optional. If they are around the same time, I would then hope both organizers could pull from a large enough set of competitors to make both comps viable by possibly advertising together. For example consider the following promotion: "Wear a mask and come to California for Hollywood but if you're not comfortable dancing with a mask come to Florida for Grand Nationals. Our goal is to make everyone comfortable" Not sure if this violates anti-trust laws or not. Most certainly it can take into account each state's specific protocols.
Realistically, my observation is that a true back to normal will not occur until next summer or maybe even fall. Hence, solutions need to be considered to somehow support as many organizers as possible especially in early 2021.

I actually think you are part of the solution. The sooner we get to more people wearing masks reliably, the more open things will eventually be.
I sympathize with business owners trying to please everyone. But I truly think it's better for businesses in the long run to get going with figuring out how to do things safely, rather than how to make every customer comfortable, whether they're doing their part to keep others safe or not.
Spot on. I do wish people would realise that current, normal (non-medical), mask protect others and do very little for the wearer. They're not a fashion accessory. Visors do very little for anyone; they're designed in medical use to stop the spray from coughing, sneezing, etc. when very close to a patient. Oh yeah, those 'easy-breathing' valves generally render masks pretty useless for protecting others.
I'd really like to see some PROVEN personally protective nose/mouth wearer protective masks - not some unproven marketing hype for xyz materials.
It's going to be some time before we get a validated and safe vaccine, so in the meantime we need to keep safe and live with it (BTW, infection rates around me are increasing dramatically - among the worst in Europe). Dancers, and studios, dance promoters, etc. need to recognise their responsibility in this.

Been learning modern dance and hip-hop for the last six months. I don't have a lot to do since I'm single, I work at home and I don't want to go out if it's not for food and other necessities. I'm also doing other DIY stuff. LOL.
