All-Terrain Dance Shoes (revisited)

After reading through the numerous threads on all kinds of shoes, I found the thread where Blochs were being discussed for "pavement dancing".

It looks as if the Bloch Ultraflex is a top contender, but I also found some others I took a liking to. There's the DanceNow bootie:

the only difference I see is that it comes up farther onto the ankle (but I'm a novice to non-ballroom shoes, and could therefore be very wrong), the Tivoli canvas dance shoe:

Which is small, and neat, and light (but canvas, which isn't as foot-friendly as leather), or just some plain old all-leather ballet flats, just something to cover my feet while I dance. I'll be doing mostly swing, mambo, and cha-cha, with a little foxtrot and waltz- and one tango, two hours every weekend throughout the summer.

I'm wondering if I should abandon "fancy pretense" and just go for the cheap canvas ones? I looked everywhere today for just a plain set of safe shoes I could use, but none would work- they all flopped off at the heel, or caused me to "shift" across the shoe and turn my ankle.

I was hoping to find some under $40, does such a creature exist?

I'm going to give Bloch Enduro-Tech a try. They look comfortable, I got a good deal on them, and if anything, they'll be good "foreign turf" ballroom shoes, when I want to just fold them up and stick them in a purse.

I'd looked at the sneaker, and liked it, but it still looks "clunky"- I'm scared that I'll do something clumsy and "catch" it on my own foot- yes, I did that even tonight in practice shoes. The jazz shoe is more streamlined and "barefooty" feeling, and is just enough to protect my feet from pavement.

I was actually looking for stretchy "ballet flats" house shoes- you know the kind- lycra top, suede bottom, but those still hurt if you step on something like a stone, or bottle cap, or who knows what else.

Yeah. The sneakers look kind of clunky to me, too. :? You're right. Some people here, especially salsa people, IIRC, have recommended jazz flats similar to the ones you've posted. cocodrilo, IIRC, swears by them. (Maybe Rosa too. :? ) I'm not sure that's enough foot support for ballroom, though. Eh. There's no way to win, when it comes to shoes. Ya just gotta buy a hundred pairs and be done with it. That's what I did.

I'd suggest considering some sort of gel insoles whatever you choose. Pavement is going to be tough on your feet!
