Altering a used tail suit

A lot of threads mention buying a used ballroom tail suit and getting it altered to fit me better. My question is, who do I trust to do those alterations? I assume that you wouldn't go to your local taylor to alter a tail suit, just as you wouldn't have them make you one.

Are there people around New England that I could go to to make some ajustements. I live in Vermont, but could probably go to Boston or DC if need be at some point.

It's a Ron Gunn tail suit; about 15 years old. The previous owner was my height and weight, so it fits pretty well, but it seems a little off. I think my shoulders are too narrow (I'm really tall and skinny), and it seems to have shoulder pads (unusual for a ballroom tail suit?).

Tricky. Probably best to check around for positive reviews. I know of two follows who had dresses pretty much wrecked by local seamstresses who claimed they could do gowns and had a lot of experience (but apparently not with ballgowns).

Apples and oranges perhaps, but still worth some consideration.

Why not contact Ron gunn? They would be the experts at modifying it

How much do you think something like that would cost, getting it done by Ron Gunn? Also, wouldn't I need to be there in person?

may i ask how much you bought it for? i have a ron gunn tail about the same age. originally cost $1500 back then. now days a good suit cost about $1500+. the pants i had it altered about 3 times by a local tailor with no problem. however, the tail i tried to have it altered by the same tailor said that there was not enough material to alter it. I went on a trip to japan (taka's fashion) and the sales person knew exactly what to do and it cost $60. Just thought i throw my 2cents in......

Why not email and ask him? I am not sure if you need in person since they made the suit and u are only altering some of the measurements. They usually give you a very complete chart to fill out to make the suit, so maybe filling that out will eg all they need. In any case, gunn is in the USA a lot.
