Am I too old to learn?

Well hello everyone. My name is Lauren and I am 20 years old.

Last time I danced, I was about 10 and I did ballet and tap. Needless to say, I'm not as flexible as I used to be and I'm really wanting to get back into dance.

A dance studio in my city is offering intro to modern and I am thinking of doing it, also for the exercise (I could lose a few lbs)

Do you think I am too old to start dancing again? Too old to learn modern?

Welcome to Dance Forums, LaurenElle!

You are probably fine with this. If in reasonably good health, you are probably never too old to start; but I speak mostly of ballroom dancing... I know little to nothing about "modern" dancing. This forum's primary focus is ballroom, but there may well be someone here with experience in Modern who can respond in a more helpful way.

Best to you.

LaurenElle, I'm ((YourAge )*3)+x years old, and I'm teaching myself a hip hop routine to Thrift Shop, since they play the song every night at the country western place I go to, and there are YouTube vids to watch and learn with.

Am I too old to be doing this? Will I look foolish doing it in public?

I'm doin' it anyhow, so I think you have MY answer to your question.

(I was wise enough to stay out of the frame why I recorded my African dance class a few years ago. It's somewhere on YouTube.)

Welcome to DF.

Never too late. But if you wanna be a professional dancer, it might need very intense practice, I know some dancers they started their career not at an early stage. Hold on!All the best!
