Another 'buyer beware' eBay alert

I'm thinking this one is pretty self-explanatory and that any person with a grain of common sense would know the difference, but I thought I'd post here anyway...

"Ever wished you had the opportunity to have the same latin dress as Karina Smirnoff or Julianne Hough was wearing on the show? NOW IS YOUR CHANCE!!!! The winning bidder will have a custom made replica dress of the celebrity designed dress..."

"Order a custom made dress from the "Dancing with the Stars" show! Choose from any one of the dresses from all 3 seasons currently posted (more dresses will be up soon)!!!!"

I wonder if the folks at ABC have seen that. I suspect they might heavily object to the photos being used. (As might the stars and pros, but I suspect ABC owns the rights.)

I wanted to bump this thread to alert dancers to eBay sellers airgift123 and mainshop2008. They are stealing photographs from the Internet and offering counterfeit reproductions of designer gowns.

One of the gowns they are offering to counterfeit belongs to my friend. (Imagine my surprise to see her gown listed on eBay with the original photograph from Designs by Lyn, only the model's head was lopped off and a fraudulent watermark!)

(If anybody is interested in the REAL gown, she was asking $1,200 but may go lower. The gown appears brand new, beautiful stoning, generous stretch... would fit I believe a 6-10). I can't imagine what type of garbage would come in the mail for $149.99.

Ha. Love it:
"The color shown in the photos may be slightly varied from
the actual color due to the lighting and color deviation of monitors."

more like WHAT YOU WILL ACTUALLY RECEIVE IS CRAP.

LOL! Exactly. ;)

I don't know if you can tell from the photo, but the gown is black stretch mesh, the skirt comes to a point in front and back, and the skirt is finished with hot pink mesh spirals. All of the pink designs you see on the black part of the gown and the bra are solid swarovski stoning. Even if the counterfeit gown used cheaper materials and plastic stones, I still don't see how they could offer anything that looks remotely like the picture and only charge $149 for it.

Heh, one of us should contact the eBay sellers and ask all sorts of detailed questions about the costumes. Should get some "interesting" responses, hmmm?

Oh, and I love the sellers who put fake "starbursts" on their dresses to make it look like the cheap@$$ rhinestones actually have sparkle....

You'd think after all the work they took to steal the pictures from somewhere else they could spend 5 minutes and steal another seller's correctly phrased listing and just change a few words. I understand that the language barrier can cause some interesting things when translating to english, but if I wanted a "customer-made" dress I would make it myself (I want to ask them what kind of dresses they have for men too).

DO IT! :rocker:

Can't this type of thing be reported to E-Bay administrators and the vietnam vendor(s) ordered to stop? I'm always more than leary when I see "colors may vary." Thanks for the heads up.

I believe we've nailed a few sellers in the past, but it takes some work to do so. "Copying" a costume is one thing. Stealing photos of the genuine article and trying to pass that off as what is being sold is another.

I wish there are ways to stop the counterfeit reproduction of designer gowns on Ebay. This is stealing! Really not fair to original seller who are selling real high quality authentic designer gowns. It’s even more sad that there are buyers would believe they are getting an authentic designer gown for less than $300.
