Any Knitters or Crocheters?

A while ago, I did some crocheting for an organization called Stitches from the Heart. Volunteers knit or crochet blankets, caps, booties, etc. for premature babies (it's very hard to find baby clothes small enough for tiny preemies) and the organization distributes them to hospitals all around the country. I thought I'd start up again.

Anyone know a good online source for yarn?

Oh gosh. My mom would know. She has to order online. But she lives in Philly and would be in bed by now. I do some knitting too though, but I buy everything locally.

I don't know but let me say having lost my first child, a premie, and having only those little clothes to put on her after her death, you may have no idea how very much that meant to us...and if I can be of any help in any way please p.m. me

I used to be a crazed, fanatical knitter and I've ordered lots of yarn from patternworks.com. I've also bought perfectly nice baby yarn from Joann's and Wal-Mart.

Waltzgirl, does Stitches from the Heart have a website? This sounds like such a wonderful thing to do...I've knitted tons of sweaters, socks, scarves and afghans for friends and family and gotten burned out with it, but the idea of knitting for something like this really appeals to me.

Fascination, I'm so sorry about your loss. It hurts me to think about it.

its okay guys...it was 20 years ago...mainly I just wanted to share how very very very special a project it is...and to say how much I would like to help...I do knit and crochet but not well...but I would still like more info

I appreciate your sharing that, fasc. Makes the need for this kind of project really hit home.

The web site is stitchesfromtheheart.org. They have easy patterns on the site. I'm not that great at crochet, so I stick to a few basic stitches, but that's enough to make some pretty things.

If you don't want to make things, they always need donations to cover the mailing costs, etc. They also have a great project where they provide yarn to retirement homes and senior centers so seniors on fixed incomes can participate.
