Argentine tango - I am currently listening to

They have it for salsa and so why not for AT?

I currently am listening to the Tango project. My two favorite songs on this CD have been "El Choclo" and "El Esquinazo".

Oh, Sagitta. I love El Choclo. My current favourite album to listen to is Tanghetto's Emigrante, a fantastic, modern fusion of the traditional tango beat we all love with various other types of music.

It offers a refreshing change from traditional tango while maintaing what is best about the music.

Thanks MS. What about all you other tangueros out there? Don't you listen to tango music? Let us know what you listen to, and while mentioning that it would be good to also mention whether it is something that you would dance to, or strictly listening music.

That's a good point, Sagitta. I had never thought of only listenting and not dancing to a type of tango music. Do you do that? What sort of tango music do you enjoy listening to, but not dancing to or vice versa. Perhaps I'm a tango hussy. I'll dance to anything with a tango beat! :)

I was listening to some tango music, yesterday night, at a friend's place. Not muisc I would dance too, but unfortunately I don't remember what group/CD it was.

I had stopped all tango for almost a month now I think...I'm slowly getting back into it, and by the end of November, when I stop assisting with Monday latin classes I'll start really imersing myself into AT.

Hmmm...interesting. It never even occurred to me to listen and not dance.

Oh, I forgot one of my absolute favourite tangos (although, it's generally played as a ballroom tango). The Toreador song from Carmen...jeepers, if there's a tango that get's my spirit soaring it's that one!!!

Sometimes it sounds really stuffy, but the Beijin Symphony Orchestra does a version with a trumpet and it's amazing. My little feet start dancing without me when it comes on.

Hey, Shakti and welcome to DF and the tango forums.

At Sagitta's suggestion, I've spent the afternoon listening to it and it's great background music. I want to keep getting up and dancing! :) It's no good if you're meant to be concentrating on something.

You won't need anything to play it (aside from a soundcard and speakers). It uses a built-in player, Shakti, so you should have no problems.

Thanks

Thanks. I will look into that. I understand your warning about having to concentrate on something else while listening to dance music. I have been a bit distracted all day Sunday.

dance or listen to?

Hi everybody. Mi name is Carlos and I'm from Buenos Aires, Argentina.I'm new at this forum. I was surprised because you think of tango mainly as a dance and not as just music to listen to. Here a lot of people danceit but I think that is more important as music to listen to. I think that the best artist of the second half of the 20th century is Astor Piazzolla. Do you know him? He made a modern tango, very complex. AT the beggining some people told that he was crazy and that his music was not tango. Butin the end everybody recognized him as a genius. If you want me to recommend yousome cd's or where you can shop them online just say it. Goodbye

Definitely. Great to have you on our forum carlitos. So how about some CDs good to listen to and others that are good to dance to. This would be useful for us AT newbies, such as myself. And where is the best place to buy these online for those of us who cannot afford to go to Argentina?

For some reason I bet the online shop that our Carlito will recommand is the same online shop advertised under "good tango store" in the DF ad section ...

Here is an URL who deals about choosing A.T CDs

http://www.tejastango.com/tango_music_collection.html

They recommend several online shops, but mainly they recommend titles, composers, and albums.
