Hey guys

I feel im losing touch with the important things in my latin. Can any of you guys give me advice? Im doing a Samba for a competition in 12 weeks and it at the moment is a complete disaster especially my hip movement on the forward locks.

Id appreciate any constructive advice

Have you talked to your teacher about it? S/he can help you wth this. It's a normal plateau in the learning curve: sometimes, when you've just learnt some new things or even as an advanced dancer, you'll find yourself confused with even the simplest of things. That, in your case, seems very possible. You're worried about the comp, trying to learn new tricks and steps and it all got messed up in your head. Perfectly natural. :D
I suggest talking to your teacher about it. S/he'll do a small revision for you, going through all the basic things, starting from footwork and going upwards. You'll see that your body knows it all and that you've got it all in your head too: you just need a small revision.
It's like any other thing, like... maths, per say. You learn something in September, then in July, you find yoruself unable to do it. It's not that you don't know how to do it. You're just out of form.
Good luck! Talk to your teacher! S/he's there for you.

Thanks for the responses. Ive tried talking to her and she skims over it and then gets back to teh complicated stuff. She gets frustrated when im not resolving these same problems but I cant seem to get what i want out of her. I spend hours just doing the same bit over and over but when it comes to piecing it all together it goes horribly wrong!!!

The Samba routine im doing is very simple, samba whisk, 3 step turn, 4 forward locks, 2 locks turning then (sorry i dont know the name for this move) 4 back back crosses (?). Then 2 fast spins like twists (again forgot their name sorry!) followed by a lean out. Then Wapacha timing steps (no idea how to spell that) followed by forward lock, lock turning and then those spins where you are arms round each others back and you spin across each other

(sorry for bad explanation my brain is fried from work)

But with the routine being so simple it shouldn't be hard to make it look professional. Other people in my school are doing this routine so I need some sort of edge on them. Another girl in my school is doing the same routine except my teacher gave her "flashier" bits so I need to sparkle in some way. Sorry if i seem daft.
