Back to Cloudflare

So with all the AI bots out there, Dance Forums was getting hit by everyone's new AI project to scavenge our content here (plus other bots). I have gone back to using Cloudflare. It should save a lot of bandwidth and make the site more accessible and speedy to everyone else. If you notice anything weird, please let me know.

Everything is weird. Can't get DF to load, getting error messages. When this finally opened it was slow and poorly formatted. I tried on FireFox as well as Chrome. Getting Resource Limit is Reached as part of the page when I get anything at all. I'll try to attach a sample screenshot in my next post.

OK, it is possible the first time you loaded the site again it was a little weird and then gets better. I need to watch this for a little while and see if other people get past the weirdness also.

We had some IP addresses out of Hong Kong that were hitting the site hard. Increasingly, there are more bots coming to get our content for their AI applications. I do fear we may have to do some more extreme measures like limit browsing for non-logged in users, or other security measures that occasionally could be a nuisance to normal users. I am considering upgrading (and paying more money) to use more services that help with these problems.

I noticed some launched threads in Chinese, referencing west coast US universities. I figured it was the bots again.

Not falling for click bait.

What a day and age we live in now!

Thanks again for your vigilance @DanceMentor.

Our biggest problem going forward is going to be bots scavenging our site for content for their AI libraries. We may reach a point where we have to wall off Dance Forums more, require membership (possibly even a small fee to pay for the server). I don't want to do that. One method I have been considering is requiring a login after a few page loads. Anyways, for every problem there is a solution.

(Sarcastically)... It's practically DFs fault for having such good content, advice, and educational content from real and reputable dance veterans. Notwithstanding the fact that much of the content remains relevant today and can apply to a broad range of dancers and levels.

Just saying... if the content was bad... it wouldn't be worth harvesting.

I'm confident you'll find a solution that allow DF to continue educate and engage generations of dancers worldwide.

It's interesting, and I have a new section coming (back) to dance forums that should be fun and engaging for everyone. It should be announced soon. One thing chat bots lack it real people, and this is where we have them beat every time. One that section is done, I will likely redo the photo section of the site. The Blog probably will not stay, or at least be removed from the main menu. May fire up a competitions section again also (actually already started).
