Ballroom Dancing vs Riding horse with direction to go

absolutely- mind you- i did say freshly bathed. even the smell of the barn in the morning. I have "heard" a few people on this board refer to loving the smell of a well oiled dance floor. I think it is the same visceral reaction to something that brings you great joy.

Just a quick plug for other forms of dance: I find AT totally absorbing, not competitions (except maybe for the great partners) and a universe of learning stretching to infinity. Is there any 'round where you are, so you could try dancing for fun, rather than show?

Do we really have to make choices about our hobbies!? I am not a skater, unless one counts the mostly self-taught ice skating I did long ago! Horses and dancing, yes, although not competing in the equestrian world at the moment. And occasional dog agility/obedience competitions (which means I need to train once in a while!). And considering pursuing one of the martial arts this fall to learn a bit along with my kid. Somehow, I squeeze in work/career

It does get to be a bit much, at times, but I do enjoy dabbling. Whenever I consider selling the horse, I just can't do it...

I really laughed at DancerOnIce's comments about the benefits of dance partner vs. the horse- dancing IS much safer!

Well, yeah, if you want to really be GOOD at one and not just mediocre at several. Plus, most of us (around here, anyway! ) aren't blessed with unlimited funds, so when you start getting into the pricey hobbies you have to pick and choose.

I want another horse, but I really don't know if I can go and buy one and then NOT show...

exactly dancer- it is not all about the money. alot of it is about time and how you feel. i have had people offer me a pretty good free horse but I know i would not be happy going out to ride a couple times a week and riding the trail. So the dancing is a much better fit for me. However some people would be fine with that and give a little attention to each. doesnt work well for me and it didnt sound like the OP felt that way either. Just as soon as I win the lottery I will have plenty of time and money to spare so I can do it all.
