ballroom gown rental

Kicking this back up--I'm debating renting/renting to buy (since I'm not sure how much Smooth I'll be doing and the green one's still got the issues that had when I consigned it--ie, not flattering in the hips, and matronly neckline.) Looking at Rhinetsone Rentals (I'm not seeing much at Rhythmic that's my size and not a bit blah), I see someone says one was their old Rainbow Shiu--I'm not entirely convinced from some of these photos that the dress I'm looking at (though I like the cut) has real (ie not Korean) rhinestones on it even though they say it's Swarovski (and identify dresses with Korean stones as such.) Anyone actually rented from them?

Other option is someone at the studio's selling a black dress with Swarovski (that I can see are Swarovski) and easily-cut-off wrist floats, which I could always tart up with more stones. For $75, how wrong could one go, really? But otoh, if I end up not being in love with it, I'm stuck with it...

ETA: I know someone on here is friends with/knows Bonnie Belle designs--could you PLEASE tell them, if you see this, I find their "gallery" horribly user-unfriendly? I would consider renting some, maybe, but I can't see full-length pictures, the colors aren't very clear, and having to scroll through a bunch of barely-labled thumbnails on Flickr is more frustrating than helpful. I'm clicking on a lot of dresses that are terribly unsuitable but I don't know that because the thumbnail only shows part of a bodice or something or it's not identified as rhythm or smooth in the file name (!).

Yay! And np. If you're passing along more feedback--a M/L in a *dark* brown for the Chocolate Collection would be a nice thing. ;) (I love really rich browns, and if I'm tan I can sometimes even pull them off. Chocolate and gold is a nice combination.)
 
DOI- I have rented many times from Rhythmic Rentals and one thing I've found is don't necessarily rule something out from the pictures. I have ruled things out before that I thought looked "blah" and then saw them in person and the colors really popped or the style was nicer than I had in my head from the pictures. I can't vouch for the smooth stuff though, having only rented rhythm from them.

Have you looked at w w w. ballroomcouture. com yet? They are a newer site. I haven't tried them yet but they do seem to have good stuff. My biggest problem is that since it is a consignment site, most people are trying to sell only, so even though there might appear to be a good selection, not everything is rent-able. YMMV
 
I don't know if any of your studios have a consignment shop but one of the studios where I dance does and they rent alot of their gowns as well as have them for sale. The rental prices are VERY reasonable and the gowns are quality. (sorry i'm on the east coast)

Either! Though right now I'm in the Smooth market. (I'm almost thinking of ordering a dress from one of the 'discount' makers and stoning it myself, as I've got an idea what I want to do, and there seem to be very few smooth gowns that aren't fitted to below the hips or with the bodice/skirt seam right across the hips--that's extremely unflattering, especially on someone short-waisted with wide hips/narrow waist. I really don't want what amounts to a belt drawing the eye to the widest part. Not to mention trying to find a dress with long sleeves...)
 
Renting ball gowns

I'm taking a student to her first comp next month. She doesn't want to invest in any dresses yet so I told her you can rent a couple for the weekend. I'm drawing a blank as to what the websites are lol. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
 
i've rented some wonderful dresses in the past from one DFer, and i know there are more than one who rent dresses, so hopefully you will get a number of responses here.

they'll want to know about sizing and dance style... :)
 
If your student needs ballroom (rather than latin) i have a nice bunch of gowns I rent, however, most of the dresses I have are around size 2-6/8. (still listed under old forwarding link of alexkat.com under gowns for rent folder which has currently 20+ gowns)
A bunch of other people rent gowns in different ranges here as well.

A big company I see around is rhythmicrentals, although I find their prices to be quite expensive.
 
I use rhythmicrentals.com or rhinestonedressrentals.com. The place I refuse to try because of the prices is encoreballroomcouture.com. Rhythmic has the best selection, esp. if she is a smaller size. I'm sure many DFers will chime in if they have dresses to rent though :)
 
Ballroom Dress Rental (www [dot] rentballroomdresses [dot] com) is fabulous. I actually purchased my current pro rhythm dress from them ($500!! and it is AWESOME) and they are fabulous about sending things out for try-ons. Can't say enough positive about my experience with them - simply fantastic. I would definitely (and have) sent students there with excellent results.
 
I need advice.
I'm having a smooth/standard dress custom designed and made for me by Donna Inc, hands down my favorite dress designer. But until I get it(it will be 4 or 5 months, because she's in such high demand) What is a reliable, quality rental company I could use?
 
My wife just rented both a smooth and Rhythm dress from Rhythmic Rentals (at .com of the same name) Cannot say enough about the service, the dresses were awesome and the price seemed inline with others. Highly recommended. One of her dresses had been worn on DWTS

I second this recommendation. I will caution you that, not knowing your size, the available supply of rental dresses anywhere you look will be smaller as the size goes up (meaning >8 or so). You could also try encoreballroomcouture.com. They seem to have high quality dresses but their fees are higher if that makes a difference.
