Ballroom on television??

Hi All,

US resident, and don't usually do much channel surfing but I was curious--are ballroom programs ever on TV, outside of mainstream hits like dancing with the stars? I'd love to see some IDSF dance, or other high calibre competitions from sources other than old youtube clips.

Either that, or internet streams of some sort would be great as well. Let me know if you guys know anything about this, thanks!

Hi Octavian, welcome to the forums! Ohio Star Ball's professional events air in January on PBS on a program called "America's Ballroom Challenge." I think IDSF comps air sporadically, but I'm never the first to hear of them. I think Blackpool Dance Festival will be streaming live this year, but I can't recall the site through which it will be streaming. Aside from that, I'd just default to YouTube for ballroom on-demand.

I also get the Blackpool DVDs every year:

Check out thedancingchannels.com. They provide Internet streaming of major Ballroom events. Next up is Blackpool

CN8 is providing some coverage of USA Dance Nationals in 2 90 minute segments starting May 24th.

I think I read that CN8 also covered last year's North American Championships (a.k.a. the Cherry Hill comp) and I think this year they are covering several comps.

There used to be some coverage on The GoodLife (cable) from around 1998-2000 and sometimes these re-air late at night. There is at least one program that has some of today's stars competing as kids including Mark Ballas with Julianne Hough, Derek Hough, and Valentin Chmerkovskiy with Diana Olonetskaya.
