Belly Dancing kakis

Hello everybody, I am new here. :)
I started my first formal dance training (in chinese and ballet dance) when I was in sec 1. After the O levels, I took 8 yrs break from dancing and finally decided to get my heels n toes moving again last Nov 04 :D
Only 6mths into belly dancing. Looking for kakis here. Hehehe...
I must say the tips for dancing is very useful here. Esp there is a thread about moving the head from side to side like an egyptian. I followed one of the instructions and well, ermmm...some improvement.
I hadnt been able to acheive that in my belly dance class :(

oops....looks like my singlish is not being understood...hehe sorry
I mean, I mean, people who are also like me, into belly dancing

i'm into watching women dance it and cheering them on while hyperventilating..

plus.. i think the side to side head move is more typically Indian.. than it is Egyptian..

I think the "pop culuture" may have had a hand in this. I have forgotten who the band is, but there is a song called "walk like an egyptian" and the singers/dancers were doing side to side/forward and aback stuff with their heads

Welcome to the Forum Family, Candy!

I think I was just chatting with you on the other Dance Forums for non-partner dancing. Delighted to see you found your way here as well!

It was The Bangles. Soundsample at Yahoo. But no video. I want that video :D ...one of my favs.

I think some of that "walk like an Egyptian" stuff comes from the way ancient Egyptian painting almost always showed profiles, rather than straight-ahead faces.

I think there might be some movements like that in Arab dancing though. I think I saw a Mauritanian performer do something like that once. (Not purely Arab, no, but a heavily Arab-influenced culture.)

Walk like egyptian?
Incidentally, I can never do the pharoah walk properly...I just look like a drunk idiot walking irregularly not in a straight line in my belly dance class

 there's a pharoah walk in bellydance class now??

I can do that sideways and backwards! I can also do the "Indian 'Dancing Mughal' movement" with my head as well. (Always good to break the ice in an anal retentive remedial ELS class!)
As for the musical & presentational selection, give me Steve Martin's "King Tut" any day!

The thing goes, u roll ur hip from backward to front bringing the leg together as well, and after that, side on the right.
I hope I am describing right...
