Best Dance Type(s) for Solo Dancing

First of all I'm not a performance dancer. I'm just a person who likes to dance at home solo. I would like to know the best dance type(s) (i.e. salsa, rumba, line dance) for me to do, especially the energetic one(s).

That's like asking which is the best color. What do YOU like to do? If you're dancing solo, why not pick something that's made to dance solo, like ballet or jazz, rather than a partner dance like rumba? Maybe watch some youtube videos and see what appeals to you.

Salsa should work for you, particular if you learn a lot of "shines". Mostly of the time my wife is not
dancing with me but doing shines. Have you looked at Zumba; yes it a exorcise program but
was created by a choreographer and incorporates lots of dances.
Line dances are not a bad idea. Learn them and when you go out you can do them with others.

Hi ralmcg, that´s a completely wrong attempt: music rules the dance type. Tell us what kind of music actually moves you, and a proper style will be found at once. It does not work the other way round. And also hi to DF!

I have danced to Bollywood music. I also bought a 3-disc best of disco record that I will probably dance to in the near future.

You could try out vintage/vernacular jazz and solo charleston. Those can be very high energy and fun, should see them taught in the swing/lindy hop scene usually. There's bunch of routines as well that use those steps, you can youtube the shim sham, tranky do and big apple among others

but really try out a few things and see what works and like everyone said enjoying the music is super important.

Seems that you do not need a certain dance style. Start something that covers a great variety or different types of music. So I would follow mjnemeth´s advice: Zumba!
