Best Instructors in International Standard and Latin

I'll be posted to Washington DC for 4 months. I'm looking for the best possible lady instructors for International Standard and International Latin. Anybody to recommend and their contact and studio?

Thanks very much. Nice to be on the forum.

Will you have a car, i.e. can you do DC suburbs and Baltimore area or are you restricted to Washington DC?

Also, for standard, it would help to know your height to recommend the best instructor in that respect, especially since I assume you'll be taking lessons solo.

Hi Robin! I'm a fellow Singaporean too! I'm in Baltimore, which is an hour north of DC.

If you have a car, I think the best instructor around here who does both styles is Polina Pilipenchuck. Her and Igor run a studio in here Baltimore, and Nik here on DF and his partner Natalia also teach there. She is very popular though, so I'm not sure if she has vacancies for new students. Her contact information is available at the website: www. atlanticballroom. com (remove spaces)

Not too sure about DC, although instructors in these area are of high calibre and plentiful anyway. Good luck! :)

Well I have not decided whether to get a car, but if it makes it easier, I will get one. I will be based in Washington DC.

As for my height, I'm short at around 5ft 2 inch. Also the instructors can be separate for Latin and Standard.

Thanks to all for the many replies.

I will 2nd this post. The Pilipenchuk's are the best in the area and very conveniently located off a major highway if you do not mind the drive from DC. (approx 45 mins). Nik and Natasha are incredible as well (current competing AND winning pros)

Their instruction is impeccable! Hope this helps :D

I want to add ... that they (The Pilipenchuk's) do both standard and latin. These people know their stuff!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure what Polina's exact height is, but I'm 5'6" and I remember thinking she's kinda short when I was standing next to her at the USA Dance Nationals this year. So I bet she'll be a good height fit. And yes, you can go to different instructors, but it's a bonus if she's awesome at both anyway... how much more can you ask for than former US champs and world professional finalists, right? :)
Disclaimer: I'm neither a student of hers now, nor have ever taken a lesson from her (although I'm seriously contemplating). But everyone I know who trains with them look amazing, even if they've only been dancing for a year or two.

I do recommend the car though. Public transportation is pretty good in DC, but having the car would provide much more flexibility in traveling and exploring the area, or going to social dances in the DC suburbs. And if you have time to go on day trips or weekend vacations, you can seek out some of the best instructors in the New Jersey or New York area, like Ricardo Cocchi and Yulia Zagoruychenko, or Arunas Bizokas and Katusha Demidova.

Also have a separate qn for you, please check your PM!

Now I am confused: are you a male or a female? I was thinking a male since you were seeking female instruction and I assumed you'd be taking privates on your own. Maybe I shouldn't have assumed...

Anyway, for standard I think Tatyana Rubin is excellent if you like a right-brained approach;) She works out of her home studio called Telemark in Olney, MD.

I would also look here for instructors in general and ask specifics on people's opinions on each here on DF. www. dcdancenet. com (spaces removed).

Sorry for the confusion, I'm a male .. Thanks for all the tips, most appreciated.

OK, for a 5'2" *male*, Tatyana Rubin would be too tall. She's about 5'6"-5'7", closer to 5'8" in shoes I'd say.

If you're willing to drive to Baltimore, Katya Sergiev is pretty petite although, depending on the dates you're here, she may or may not be teaching at the time (she's pretty pregnant right now).

Polina is your best bet for a standard/latin petite instructor two-fer. Lydia Petrigova, for Latin, is pretty petite as well and is closer to DC than Polina.
