Dance compliments go both ways. I give them out because being on a dance floor and not expressing myself is an alien condition, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate her positive response.
At the height of the swing dance fad, a couple who had been dancing a few feet away stepped off the floor to rest next to me. About their finishing move (the so called 'Derby Dip') I said I'd seen many people do that move, some who did it well, but very few who actually danced it. You two nailed it.
I sat at the edge of the dance floor waiting for one of my favorites to finish with her current partner. After greeting her I said that while I was waiting I had the realization the she was one of two followers for who I honestly could not decide if it was more enjoyable to dance with you or to watch you dance with someone good.
Danced with a new woman and spotted right off that she had formal training in non-partner dance and was struggling to incorporate that with recently acquired WCS. Two months later and she was a substantially better dancer. After we finished I asked her if she would still dance with me after she became one of the best. She laughed, denied my prediction and said yes. (For what it's worth she did become one of the best, remembered my name and danced with me on the rare occasions our paths crossed.)
