Blackpool 2021

that would be weird to have a British Open somewhere and then have a Blackpool dance festival - wonder which one the judges/dancers would choose.
The British Open. BDC know how to run a competition and have the history; the City of Blackpool would just treat it as a tourist attraction. The only problem would be finding an appropriate dance floor.

Surprised that no one registered the trademarks, though.

so, if insta posts can be believed, it seems like several top judges have pulled out of attending blackpool because of the actions of the blackpool council. I wonder if any couples will refuse to attend as well.

oh, the dance couples have started to pull out of blackpool. Zia James, Stefano and Anna, Ferdi and Yulia, anna Masychts...looks like they all coordinated their instagram posts. Wonder who else will pull out? and i know there are a huge number of top judges dropping out. It appears Blackpool will not be Blackpool this year.

Perhaps this is exactly what is needed. Isn't the WDC Board of Directors all male? Perhaps we will see some splintering of the current leadership and this will lead to some reorganization.

maybe. I think that there haven't been any changes to the board for a while, i know that's been a sore point for some people as well. It seems like it's the Blackpool entertainment group leading part of these changes (maybe with the WDC, i dunno about the backdoor politics there). not sure how much they care about these boycotts? not sure i've seen any responses so far, but who know where they would respond?

maybe we'll see everyone at that new Paul killick comp - the blackpool tower one (i forget the name) - and that will become the new blackpool.

Allegedly the judges had a new clause put in their contracts this year that they can't judge within 30 miles of Blackpool for a month either side. Some people think that's targeting The Open.

I think there will be other competitions caught in the crossfire too though.

I don't think it specified what competitions were being trademarked. But it sure seems like deciding who makes the champions is a lucrative business.

I was researching a little bit about the WDC. I see that a man named Sergei Ryupin is on the Board of Directors. I don't know him, but he seems to be a Russian citizen. Can he legally be on the Board of Directors?

Noting the British Council seems to also be an all male Board of Directors.
