Ever wonder why in the open level, ONLY VW has a fixed set of figures?

Whereas, in every other dance at that level, you can improvise...

A plot perhaps?

I kind of like the fact that there's *one* standard dance where you have the same figures through the syllabus to open. It's easy to compare the couples. It's judged purely on quality. There's value in that.

What are the other dances being judged upon?

You are hilarious!! I have nothing of value to add to this thread but you just made me laugh for the first time today. Thanks!

Hey at least there is one dance where they can just compare every on movement and swing... everyone does the same, and problems show up quickly.. Of course in Amatuer there are a few other steps allowed.. off time spins and Left Wisk.. There is actually quite a bit of variation possible...
Anyway what other steps would you think to be appropriate?? The famous "roll out an paddy cake" that so many people do... Kinda breaks the frame though...
I seen lot's of things done for intros..

A few others.... My Fave Double Reverse Spin or Double Natural

Anyway in Blackpool they don't compete in VW... it's just a funny "Variation" of "Real English BAllroom Dancing"

My point was that more choreography only confuses the judging picture. If everyone is doing a relatively limited set of figures such that you can see them doing the same thing side by side, it's easy to compare the good, the bad, and the just plain ugly.

Nobody can stand out just because of their choreography. They have to stand out because of their technique.

reason /-- the German reps. at the world council meetings, have always opposed any changes to the current status.

there have been several articles ( notably by Scrivener and Moore ) on the pros and cons of possible changes .

Any links you might have to these articles--or information on them--are appreciated TT.

Wondering what pros/cons would be...

BTW

OP was about Standard VW.

I accidentally did a natural pivot turn in VW in comp once.

No one seemed to mind.

Also, I can see doing the left whisk (perhaps in lieu of a contracheck).
