Can DJing be done on a shoestring?

Thanks a lot but I don't have this in my additional options. It's seems that this is is part of the good old strict hierarchic structure here - one needs certain amount of posts to be able to post links, then some more to be able post files... Who know what other secret privileges are denied to me:)

By the way, there are a couple of well-known tango "blogs" from which one can download a lot of tango music of rather decent quality. I'm not going to post any links however, because I have serious doubts that those are legal:)

Talking of DJ'ing, the only time I've ever thought 'wow, that was good DJ'ing' (ie actually noticing DJ'ing) was when I went to a milonga where Tony Walker was the DJ. Is he still around??
 
OK : I have a related question here

Lets say someone kindly offered to share their music library with you. How would you match off against what they have and identify what they've got that you dont have? Cant do it in iTunes at least.

In iTunes, make a playlist that contains all of your tango music (I think it's called a "smart playlist" or something like that, where you tell it to include all music starting with the genre tango).

Export the playlist. This produces a tab delimited text file with the tag info for all the songs.

Open the text file with MS Excel. Excel knows how to handle tab delimited text files, and you then have a nice spreadsheet of your music.

From there (in Excel), you can figure out how to sort it, make subtotals (by CD title), or however else you want to compare them.
 
Btw, on a slightly related note, does anyone have a good source of digitally restored golden age music? I.e., without the scratchy record noises. I found the ToTango guy, but $800 for his collection seems a bit out there right now. Heh.

I know how to do it myself, but I am lazy. ;)

May be I´m oldfashioned and mental, but I do prefer the raw .AIF sound, rather than .mp3 and mp4s. And I don´t like to click or check small hooks and other tick marks.
