Can't dance and have 0 rhythm

I was planning on asking a girl out maybe to a dance. I'm Jewish and when I had my barmitzvah, my family made fun of me and told me if I were Gene Kelly, I couldn't sing. I got rhythm. I watched the video and I was terrible. I was off beat, 0 rhythm and I have no moves and it was very embarrasing  someone please help me :)

Hmmm.....first things first - yes, even BEFORE learning basic technique and musicality....:)

Confidence in yourself and just the pure enjoyment of getting out there and dancing for the fun of it are the glues that are going to hold everything else together. Take care of them, and I promise you with some practice your moves will follow and improve with time. :) Whatever you do - do this for yourself, and no one else. Regardless of what others think of your efforts have fun with it and don't give up. :)

eh... I had the same problem the first time I watched myself on video (not with my timing, I was a lot bouncier than I thought). I was really upset at first, but then I realized its just a great oppurtunity to grow.
after that I focused on making my dancing smoother, and more grounded. Now that is what people compliment me on the most.

SO being off time bothers you? Obviously you have some sense of time, to be able to watch yourself and tell that your off time. So work on it! Use this as a learning experience, not something to make you feel horrible about yourself because of.

What kind of dancing BTW?

what ever is new, since i'm a kid they play all that new junk, if i had it my way it would be oldies, i would like to learn how to dance to new stuff, oldies and tune up my slow dancing.

It's not just the timing but sometimes even if i think i'm dancing i'm barely moving or i'm fixed on someone directly copying and it still turn out wrong (but thats cause i have to overcome anticipating what they gonna do and rather watch and do.)

p.s. although i am confident, once and awhile my shyness overwhelms me, but that isn't very often but it happens time to time, until i get lost in the music then i forget all about it. it's a good way to overcome shyness while dancing.

looked at em both lol, i got here from search engines and those were the first 2 i looked at, first the one with the dance and second with beginers. I don't know what grinding is or some of the terms nor do i understand how to do everything if u have and pics or could draw somequik things in paint to help me understand what it says to do/practise it would help.

i didn't see nay on the kind i want, i'll check a few out but i do need help asap as i really like this girl and asking her out to dancing, would be a good idea because she likes dancing.

lol what other reson could thier be for wanting to dance other than to be a danser, GIRLS, GIRLS AND MORE GIRLS. (or if ur a girl then guys) 8)
