Hey everyone! Haven't been here in a while ...

Wondering if you can recommend some hot cha-chas for me.

Gracias!
Melissa

Hello Hello Hello... You've been missed!!!!

OK, this hits home because I hated cha cha's when I first started, but years later and a new outlook on dancing... I love them, a whole lot. If a night goes by without a cha cha, I'll go home sad, very very sad...
Note: I include Son, Son Montunos, and Guajiras here as well as Cha Chas...

- Pan Sobao - Charlie Palmieri
- Mi Nena - Los Flamboyan
- Amanecer - Mongo Santamaria - Tear my heart out and put it on a platter because my body will stay alive just by the beat of this song pumping blood through it... Can't tell you why I love it, but I simply absolutely do! Can a violin truly sound that beautiful?
- Besame Mama - Mongo Santamaria
- Sofrito - Mongo Santamaria
- Cocinando - Ray Barretto
- Ahora Si - Ray Barretto
- Cucarachita Cucarachon - Roberto Roena
- Sabor Sabor - Wayne Gorbea
- Siempre Sere Guajiro - Saoco (Henry Fiol)

=)

Some cool non-Latin cha-cha ideas:

Bela Fleck & The Flecktones - The Sinister Minister
Swing Out Sister - Twilight World
The O'Jays - 992 Arguments, Backstabbers

I've mentioned these in other cha-cha threads before but I'll repeat anyway.

Y Yo Va Pa' Shenzhen - Orquesta La Palabra
Escucha El Ritmo - The Spanish Harlem Orchestra
Oye Como Va - Numerous versions, take your pick.

Hey Boriken! =)

Thanks for the suggestions -- you, and everyone!

I do occasionally hear great tunes like Oye Como Va and cha cha around my living room to them. hehe. I love unconventional tunes for salsa/merengue/chacha!

I had a great chacha the other night with my female friend who teaches Latin dance -- nobody else was dancing yet (First song of night) and we were able to move around the whole floor!

almost any song can be danced on with Cha^3 .. i like dancing it on songs by Santana especially..

there are quite a few tunes that i like but i dont remeber names.. but i can remeber one of them and thats ''El Raton" by Cheo Feliciano..

Waltz music may be a bit problematic, I think . But you are right -- I think I say "you can-cha to this!" at least once every week while listening to chart stuff on radio or piped music in shops/supermarkets.

For cha cha cha--- California - song by Grupo Niche from their Imaginacion CD

Then there is Amor Traicionero by Orquesta Guayacan.

"Oye Como Va" by Tito Puente

Orquesta Aragon -- though their cha cha chas are on the slow side....

For instructional videos one that I have is Shut Up and Dance Night Club Cha cha by Josie Neglia and Peta Sidall. It has one simple move that I use that gets everyone. When one does the New yorker instead of doing only one rock step I do two. This way I do, triple step, rock step, rock step, triple step, rock step rock step and with the third cha cha cha I am back on with the music. It works really well.

In These Shoes by Kirsty MacColl. A rather funny song with a good cha cha beat.

I've got tonns of ballroom Cha-Chas at home, some of them are very nice, I'll look through my list of favorites and post 'em here later tonigh.
