Chris and Hazel split?

I just read on dancesportinfo.net (dancesportinfo.net/DisplayNews.aspx) that Chris and Hazel (Professional Standard Champions for the last X years) have split. The story says that the news is actually from Chris and Hazel themselves so I imagine it is actually true...

They're doing a show in London tomorrow (monday) at the ballroom-blitz... if this is their last one, I'll definetely have to make my way down there to see them one last time! I've seen them a number of times, and was always inspired by their dancing, as well as their personalities both on and off the floor, it would be very sad not to see them dance together anymore...

I hope you're able to make it there (and get tickets.)

It is sad when these partnerships break, but when you consider all the stresses and strains of just an ordinary relationship, then add in the pressure of constant high-level performance and notoriety, it's amazing that so many partnerships last as long as they do. :(

Wonder what that means in terms of the Professional Standard rankings.

As far as i can see the pro ranks will now see
Timmy & Joanne as number 1
Everybody else will shift up one space and there will be a fight for the newest 6th place available in the finals.

Soo sad Chris & Hazel split :(

(For the benefit of the newbies among us who care about that sort of thing, could someone please add last names? 8) )

And I'm operating from ignorance here, but, heck, I'm gonna ask anyway. Might not the absence of such a prominent couple change the dynamics of the competition floor in such a way as to shake up the rankings a bit?

Christopher Hawkins & Hazel Newberry, world professional Standard champions from the UK.

It is sad when partnerships dont last especially when they are as well established as Chris and Hazel. I must admit though I am more of a Johnathan and Katusha fan. And they were 2nd at world championships, so I would think they would take 1st postition, not Timothy and Joann.

The story says that both of their engagements to other people (as in to marry) played a role which seems more than understandable to me. Heck, I know of partners whol plan to marry each other but don't feel like they can find the time while actively competing!

Chris and Hazel are a wonderful couple, serving as great ambasadors for ballroom dancing. I'll miss watching them, am glad I got to see them perform again in June, and wish them both the best in everything to come.

Yes. The best to them both.

(and, um... last names, please.  )
Since Laura posted Hazel and Chris's last names you must be talking about Johnathan Wilkens and Katusha Demidova. Sorry sometimes I forget that not everyone knows every professional dance champion by thier first name since most people have better things to do. Luckily I dont lol.

ratherbdaning... while Jonathan & Katusha are certainly in line to win, at every major comp outside the World's that was hosted in the U.S., Tim & Jo have finished ahead, i.e., most recently at this year's Balckpool.

Jenn... Tim & Jo = Timothy Howson & Joanne Bolton, Jonthan & Katusha = Jonathan Wilkens & Katusha Demidova

Here's a photo guide...

I read that too..

I dont like hearing that my favorite couples split..... Ok I know its selfish and I do realise that they have a life outside dancing but its always a little sad knowing that they wont be dancing together anymore.

That makes my 2 favorite couples split this year! (Paul Killick and Hanna Kartunnen are the other)

Chris and Hazel are (were) just beautiful to watch... They are the couple I looked up to (in Standard). Guess Im on the hunt for a new favorite couple over 2 styles now!

How sad. I was never able to see them perform in person, only on the tapes I have of various dance festivals. Guess I can cross that off of my list of things to do. :(

Not to be overly skeptical, but does anyone have a link to something more than a rumor?

If they are splitting to get married to different people, it's a great loss to the dance world, but I think it's kind of sweet that they are giving their first priorities to their future spouses. It's not as if they missed out on any titles.
