Comp Results of DFers

Its odd that for a list with so many active competitors there is no central place for our compresults. This thread is solely for dance competition result reporting for DF (and DF friends/children :) - as long as you have a personal connection). At present such posts end up on the happy/random thread or on individual competitions - which means that anyone who does not follow those particular threads misses them. I hope that this one will consolidate these achievements to one place so that we can all share.

I have noticed that there is some reluctance to post sometimes because of being perceived as self-congratulatory or of putting a co-competitior down. With respect to the first point - thats silly, why else did you compete? Please take pride in it - and let us do likewise :bouncy: Or share the not so good ones for a hug or two.

With respect to the second point - putting someone down - that could be a sensitive issue and is banned from this thread. Indeed, I hope the moderators will excise any post that makes negative references to anyone else.

As long as you only talk about your own results - your score - and not how you 'beat the socks of X', there should be no ensuing conflict (hopes!). Also, please, no whining about judges or sabotage etc here - there are threads for that elsewhere.

This thread was triggered by wondering where to post the results of my comp yesterday and wondering where to post the result - but I will do that in the second post and hope I will be forgiven for double posting this once.

So, yesterday competed at the Pol-Can comp - an AM only event west of Toronto. We made some improvements - most of all being very happy with our dancing. We got into the Adult Gold finals for the first time and came 5th!! And then were 4th in the Senior I gold (7 couples in the final). Both results are definitely an improvement and, I hope, an indication we are in the right direction.

Got to post this fast as my battery is running out!!

ee...sure, do what you like...but my preference will still be to be vague...I prefer to have my results (good and bad) to be my own business...those who know me and/or who are at the comp can find out anyhow...I am also of the mind that it is very bad form to get on and say "I beat the socks off of...insert named competitor here..."...fair to say I took a few points off the national champ in my VW or off of some ladies who I have never previously beaten, but I really dislike the idea of naming who one beat...usually folks will say what they like about how they did on the thread of the comp they attended, which (IMO) is where it belongs...if not(b/c there is not thread), I would be more inclined to share it under happy and random thoughts or something like that ...but if you would like this thread to also be an option, I am sure folks who feel like minded will use it in that vein ...and perhaps be happy for it

Fasc: I'm not sure why you wrote:

That was exactly what I also said -

I hope it was not ambigious. To make it absolutely clear I will go back and edit a little.

By the way, this did not come out of the blue - I have suggested this a few times before and several people thought it a good idea. However, its a free-forum :) people can post where they choose and if this is not the preferred way it will descend to the depth of lost threads :) (with my blessing...)

I don't believe I've ever posted how my partner and I have done before but what the heck. I know elisedance and like ourselves she works hard at her dancing (actually of late harder I'm sure) and competitions are a way of finding out how your hard work has paid off or the direction you need to go.
OK, this time around we were second across the board in both latin and standard. From the start in the jive I caught my heel in my dress and could not get it out, so bounced on my left foot like a stork for nearly a bar of music to come out into my spin late, putting us off time. That pretty much did that dance in but on the positive side at least I provided some entertainment value. I have been off with an ankle injury but made it through the latin only to be too cautious in the first rounds of the standard. Good thing for recalls where you can make up for a lame ( no pun intended ) start. I can't say I was happy with our dancing, mine especially, but my partner and I have gone 8 months with barely any practicing so what can we expect. We did achieve a few goals and held it together to make a good showing so that was encouraging. I think I am also way too critical of ourselves but I am sure I am not alone here.
My partner and I live quite a distance apart, only seeing each other once a week so we have to try and get the most out of our time together. Next weekend is another competition in Niagara so we will see how it goes there. We need to break the "bridesmaid rather than a bride" srteak we have going here. I will let you know how it goes.

Polcan? Is that like a Vulcan who dances polka?

The Pol Can was the competition elisedance and I were in on the weekend. It stands for Polish Canadian as that is the organization that puts this competition on.
Hmm, when I retire from competition I may run some competitons too. Lets see, the first will be the GORD Classic. Grumpy Old Retired Dancer (putting on competitions) Classic. The venue for this would be in Florida. Next will be the DIA Cup for very, very senior dancers, or better known as the put your "Dentures In A Cup" before entering the competition floor Cup. If there are enough of these older senior dancers left by the end of the season perhaps I can run the DOYD Round Robin Event, also known as the "Depends On Your Diapers" how many rounds Event. This one may have corporate sponsorship.
Okay okay, I'm a bad girl. Its late and I'm getting giddy so I better head to bed before I keep get going.

elisedance: are your results improving because you have learned to flirt with the judges??

I would like to imagine its happening because we work hard and are dancing better  but you could be right :) I always smile at them when I'm zooming by but DPs tendency to knock them over does not always help (it happened once - dear ontario judge had to scoot out of the way!).

No, I think its a cross between the polka and the can-can... Oy Vey!

The event is held at the polish community centre west of Toronto and is absolutely delightful with tons of children competing and a contingent of adults (thankfully they have separated the two...).

On account of our thread rules, although Rugby can't report on this I can: she and her lovel DP came second in the same heats as us (Adult Gold; Senior I Gold) . What I've seen thus far (now 5 months of comp experience), dancers are very supportive of each other. Of course, that makes the whole thing way, way more fun....

FWIW, members' comp results usually get posted in the actual thread pertaining to that comp...
