Confession time!

Who is willing to admit to trying to jump over their own shadow?  As in both literally and figuratively?

BTDT, literally I mean... just not recently. Maybe it's time. Nothing like playing "childish" games to make me laugh and keep some fun in my life. So what the heck. Why not? 8) :D

I haven't tried jumping over my shadow recently, but I have splashed around in puddles! (Friday, Saturday and yesterday, to be exact!)

The figuratively part escapes me, as well. But literally, I think I get. I can hardly wait until autumn to go running through giant piles of leaves. I haven't lived in a place where there was a definable autumn in quite a while. 8)

 about the figeratively jumping over your shadow. A wise aunt once said to me, when I was lamenting to her about something or the other with growing up/"maturing", she said to me, you can't jump over your own shadow. You can try, but you can't. In other words, the thing I was lamenting about (what ever it was, I have forgotten now  :) ) would have to bide its time/possibly never happen, because if it is in my character NOT to do/be something then, no matter how hard I tried, it just would not happen.

Two things recently made me think of this:

a) currently working with a group of women who, for me, really define the word "predatory". We work in a very male dominated environment and with these women, somehow, they instinctively know when a guy has entered the room AND one in particular, starts to preen. I have also noticed they have code words/noises to get the attraction of another lady if she is not at her desk so that she can ogle also. At the moment, whilst I do find it very funny, amusing and entertaining to observe, it does get a touch boring :? I am the type who will look up, notice, nod my head in appreciation and get back to what I was doing before said object of attention walked into the room. Not my colleagues  they drop EVERYTHING and look at this guy as if he is the best thing since sliced bread, never mind they did EXACTLY the same with another guy just 5 mins before! Mama!

b) in another thread, Pygmalion made a comment about taking a friend's children to see Princess Diaries and regretting it and I think (but don't quote me! ) she wrote something about she wished she hadn't? Someone responded that Pygmalion would have done it no matter what because it is in Pygmalion's character to be generous. Pygmalion would have been trying to "jump over her shadow" by trying to surpress that part of her character.

Is the idea behind my thread any clearer now?  I do admit to leaving it deliberately vague in the first instance to see what responses I got  I would have been trying to jump over my own shadow otherwise
