It was never the shape of the heel that was the issue, it was the position of the tip too far behind the ball of the heel to easily roll up onto it... they could very easily make something that looks like a flared heel but is fine for standard, just by moving the tip a cm or so forwards. You pretty much have to put the shoes next to a normal pair to see the difference in position between normal and flared, but you can sure feel it, even as the partner of person wearing them!
So let's hope that the contoured heel turns out to be a flared shape heel, only with the tip in the right place...
