Copy Protected CDs

I just got the Latin Mix CD by casa musica and it's copy protected. It doesn't register/play on my computer....so obviously I cant get it onto my ipod. Does anyone know I can get it onto my ipod?

Not that it helps, but...

Is it actually a CD (TM),? does it have the CD symbol on the disc or on the case? Since technically speaking the copy protected discs are not allowed to call themselves CDs or use the logo, etc. If they do you can probably return it as defective /misrepresenting itself (even if it was advertised as being copy-protected at time of sale).

However if it was advertised as being a copy protected disc, and it doesn't mis-represent itself as complying the the CD standard by using the logo. Then there is not much you can, legally, do.

Personally, I will never knowingly buy a copy-protected CD unless its a small fraction of the cost of a regular CD (1/10th) (Note to music industry people... that's 1/10th the cost of TODAYs CDs... don't think it applies if you raise the cost of a non-protected CD ten-fold)

It really depends on the CD and what was used to protect it. Some CDs with 'protection' simply have a line of gibberish that the computer will read first. It gets hung up on the gibberish and won't play the CD. Sometimes a simple black mark at the edge of the disk made with a sharpie will cause the computer to not read the gibbberish. Other CDs you have to extract the files from... the key is to not have your computer read the BS.

It's been a while since I've had to monkey around with a copyright protected CD, as now I just buy my songs through Itunes and am done with it, unless it is an import CD. I can get pretty technical about it if you need some help, lol! (Sorry but I am a stubborn person and if I buy a CD and want to import those songs onto my Ipod, IT WILL HAPPEN no matter how many hours I waste!)

IIRC these discs are labeled as copy-protected on the jewel case back cover.

There are tools out there that will tell you what sort of protection has been used on a disc, and how to copy/rip it. Sometimes they're a little flakey.

When I want to get one of these discs into my PC I use my CD player which has a digital optical output to my sound card's digital optical input.

Personally I haven't run into any copy protected CD that I couldn't rip with my Plextor drive and Exact Audio Copy or Plextools.

Yeah that is my last resort...I guess I might have to do that.

I'll check out exact audio copy.

Which latin mix cd is it? I just bought the latin mix 4 and I've been playing on my computer at work (where I spent 70% of my time, 25% dancing 5% sleeping, eating etc). What I can say about my PC at work is that programs like iTunes and Windows Media Player cannot try to search the internet so it would automatically detect song titles, etc. So maybe disconnecting your internet would do the trick (either disabling iTunes from using the web, or otherwise). Hope you can figure it out. Keep us posted.

try it on a different PC.

I once bought a Sony/BMG CD that was protected. It would play on audo-cd players, but would not work on PC's. Then I tried it on my Sony VAIO laptop (which presumably had a Sony or Mat****a CD player) and it worked just fine.

It's latin mix 1. I have latin mix 2, 3 and 4 and they are fine. It's only 1 that has the copy protection. I just tried using exact audio copy and it doesnt work either. I guess i'll just have to play it and then record it using the line in. :<

IF you dont care too much about the sound quality, try copying to a cassette or mini disc recorder and then copy it back to cd. You can clean up the sound with nero or any cd burning software.
