Counteracting an early lead

The thread of counteracting a forward-leaning lead got me thinking. I recently came to the realization that when dancing Latin, I rotate with my upper body because a number of men in my social dance circle tend to lead the rotation before I've transferred my weight. Unfornately their lead isn't always a "suggestion", and the only way to maintain my balance has been to tighten my upper body and allow the rotation through the upper body until I can transfer my weight and let the lower body rotate. You can imagine the bad habit this has developed in my lessons...

Any suggestions about how to counteract it? Or should I avoid social dancing until I've unlearned the habit?

I think that you are cognizant of it is the important part...as to what you do about it...that depends on what other venues you dance it...le'ts face it, sometimes ya' have to do that stuff out of self preservation...it you happen to be competing and it is really making a bad impact that is one thing, but if you simply have to be alert to the fact that it isn't neccessary all the time...then that is enough...if one is with a lead intent on tossing them around because he may have to toss a high proportion of follows around in his own perception in order to get them to go, then you are going to have to do the "wrong" thing from time to time if you wish to dance with those fellows....again, I think it depends on your dance goals and your dance venues
