Couple with clean technique

First of all, I'm currently taking classes with them, and I very much admire their pedagogy and skills, so I guess I am what you could call "biased".
What I like about them in general and in this video in particular is... everything really :) Everything they do is connected to the ground and to each other, which produces (I find) a very smooth walk. I like how musical they are, and how their dance is about small details and adornments which you don't necessarily see the first time you watch them.

By the way, I also disagree with the term "stage dancers" for the reasons Lui listed. Or maybe I didn't get what you mean by that (when I hear "stage tango", I imagine the BA stage tango championship where a guy with a crazy outfit is doing gymnastics with a girl with an even crazier outfit). Could you post a video of what you mean by that maybe?

Cheers,
Tangogo
I (like Angel) was curious why you liked that performance so much. I guess I'm still not sure why, but at the end of the day, it's probably not that important that I do understand it. We all have different things that we like and dislike.

IMO, they have skill, but for me, I wasn't particularly enamored with that dance. Sure, they step on the beat, but IMO, the mood of their dance doesn't match the mood of the music enough of the time for me. I didn't like a lot of the embellishments she did, but that's probably just a personal preference.

There's nothing wrong with knowing what you like, and if they inspire you, then embrace it. It's just not my cup of tea.

By feel the space I meant that couple is seaminglessly gliding on the floor.

check this:
Federico Naveira has one of the most immaculate technique around, I'll give you that :) Those performances you posted are pretty amazing in that regard, especially the second one. Then again, the first one bored me to death :/ Not quite sure why, I'll think about it...

For some reason I can't post URLs on this forum,"
I find that it's a browser problem. The Opera browser posts without a problem...the IE: will often post the embedded video and it will show up on other peoples computers but not on your own IE: post that you used to embed it...confusing? I don't use IE to post embedded videos, anymore. oops, you can't even post a URL? hmmmm

For what it's worth, I liked the first one..very clean and with the music.
the second one started to feel too showey for my taste.

That peformance, but zoomed, with better sound quality, but poorer picture quality:

For me, the dance started ok because the music had a more staccato feeling that went better with their dancing style. But as the music became more legato, their dancing stayed staccato and it didn't seem to fit as well. I also felt that the follower was more of the problem in that regard, as her embellishments added to the staccato feeling of their dance. There were moments where I got a sense that the leader was trying to adjust, but the follower stayed the same.

Don't get me wrong.. as anyone who knows me will attest, I love sharp, staccato movement. But it doesn't look quite right with just any music. Just my personal opinion of this particular performance... and I'm nothing if not opinionated! :D

Like I'm not?

OK... we all have our pet peeves... Angel's is "dancing in the middle" (and I'm still not quite sure what he means) Mine is leaders who look at the floor the whole time. I'll make allowances for complicated patterns, but does he really need to watch her feet when she's just doing a basic molinete around him? If he's not going to insert a complicated sacada, why does he need to look down?

Ok... its just my pet peeve... he's beautiful and smooth and all that, and probably divine to dance with. I just don't like the LOOK of someone who has their head disconnected from the rest of their body and posture in the dance.

Its pretty common, even among great dancers, but it doesn't exactly set a good example for all the beginners who need to learn how to look where they are going instead of at their partner's feet! And its so unnecessary for much of the dance.

Another pet peeve... why is "unnecessary" so damn hard to spell? Now that's REALLY unnecessary! I won't tell you how many times I corrected it til I got the right spelling!

This is what I saw, as well which is why I asked, originally, what the poster found so good about it. I purposefully didn't contest it, and just said, "thanks", and "interesting", b/c it is not my intent, as dchester elluded to, to say whether they are good/bad/indifferent, or whether the poster should/not like it. To each... his/her own.

Argh, this forum is eating my answers :/ It's telling me I can't post links now, but I didn't post any.
Anyways, I did find that performance a bit boring (that may not be the best word, but as you certainly noticed I'm not a native speaker, so I'm doing my best), even though I can only bow down to their technical perfection. To me it lacks intensity, maybe because it all seems so easy. Or maybe I'm just not the gliding type :)

Anyways, thanks all for the interesting comments.

Any other couple apart from the 4 mentionned at the beginning of this thread?

I understand what you mean.

1. Song is quite mellow so it can't have some flashy figures
2. They do not perform much figures, but it's awesome how they do it.

You can find more performances on YT.

Try to dance slower e.g. 1/2 speed ;)
