I'd rather not be part of the trial if there are other, better, personal options. It will be interesting to see how that works.

St. Louis city officials on Thursday declared a public health emergency. Dr. Fredrick Echols, St. Louis Health Department director, banned gatherings of more than 1,000 people, except for church services. Mayor Lyda Krewson said that Page had agreed that large events should be limited.
I generally agree. In principle, I think the city could win this one, but it might not be worth the money required. The exemption of churches is pretty much required. The city doesn't want to fight a bunch of First Amendment cases in court.
@fiesta0618 know that there are people who appreciate you posting clear headed responses on this! That is false.

SK's success has been predicated on aggressive and widespread testing so that efforts can be focused rather than generalized. US can't do that because we don't have anywhere near enough testing kits. Our response will have to be generalized, by necessity.
Interesting that you appreciate fact free borderline personal attacks.@fiesta0618 know that there are people who appreciate you posting clear headed responses on this!
Voluntary social distancing, hygiene awareness, and perhaps school closings make sense, and at least the first two would make sense just for the flu.
Except maybe for the west coast, competition cancellations and bans on large gatherings at the present time are overreactions. Save that for when there are actually a significant number of people sick.
7 year old's partner's mother showed up in scrubs for the class last night. As she said, "I'm more worried about Hep C than Covid 19 right now".
I'm kind of replying to some other posts that reference this one, but don't want to quote the one self identified as sarcasm and the others don't really have a good quote point.

I did not read scully’s post that way at all. Her post #87, which said this:Interesting that you appreciate fact free borderline personal attacks.
linked directly to fiesta’s post #81, which said this:@fiesta0618 know that there are people who appreciate you posting clear headed responses on this!
Fiesta included a link to the source of his information (making it fact-full instead of fact-free). So the way I read scully’s post is that it’s thanking him for providing a factual source for the statements he posts.
If things are as bad as you say, they should be worrying about what works, not about tone deafness. Not not cancel events for the 4-8 weeks is tone deaf and irresponsible. They are considering bans on domestic travel. It is a national state of Emergency.
All that said, however, I can’t speak for scully. For all I know, maybe she DOES appreciate fact free borderline personal attacks.

Some travel bans do appear to have been effective, so if they can figure out how to do it legally, I can imagine some domestic travel restrictions might be a good idea. They need to figure out how to avoid its backfiring, though; the complete lockdown of Hubei made things worse there by impeding medical assistance from the rest of the country.
Are you saying you expect things to be back to normal in as soon as 4-8 weeks? My understanding was that flattening the curve also involved pushing things out so they lasted longer?
Still have private lessons next week... Trying to figure out if I should get them canceled for two weeks...
A lot of our local restaurants are adding curb-side takeout, if they didn't already have it. We'll have to make a point of doing that regularly to support them. What about all the mom and pop restaurants? And people with gig jobs. They are going to go bankrupt with 1 month of self-isolation.
