Covid-19 NON DANCE debate

I know how so-called mild COVID feels like. It feels like s***.
Agreed! I got both the flu and booster shot on Saturday. I always react to both shots, so both arms are very sore. The booster arm is still sore today. Sunday morning I was feeling pretty rough, but was better by the afternoon. Hope everyone does better than I did.

After... what? ... 2 1/2 years of "being careful" and 4 shots for covid, I got the darn thing about a month ago. I had two mountains to climb (literally) and, kind of oddly, I had what I thought were bad allergy symptoms 4 days after the second climb. Tested, and yes, it was covid. I'm "high risk" based on when I was born, but my health care people did not recommend paxlovid. Guess they got it right because I'm 100% now, and working on getting back to my pre-covid dance activities.
Flu shot first in a few weeks. Some authorities see a difficult flu season because, with masking and distancing, there hasn't been much to activate our immune systems against it for the past couple of years. Then, because I should have some immunity from the omicrons 4&5 for a while, I'll get the latest booster sometime in November (based on what I heard high level medical people recommend.)

I received the latest COVID booster and the flu shot together last Friday. The arm in which I received the COVID booster hurt for 1 day, and the arm in which I received the flu shot hurt all weekend. I also felt tired and generally out of sorts all weekend.

And, to add insult to injury, Sunday I came down with a case of contact dermatitis, a red rash due to an allergic reaction to something. I'm blaming the shots. Rash is treated with hydrocortisone, and generally only lasts a few days. It's not contagious.

I am still very careful about Covid due to my medical history and current issues. All the same, I'm planning a trip to Florence in November. I have never been there and just want to gawk at the art and architecture, and am more than willing to forego eating in restaurants, etc. to get to do it in a way that I will still feel safe. When I mentioned to a good friend (F1) what I was planning, she asked if she could come with me. I explained the precautions I would be taking and that I would want her to take as well and she was completely on board. Yay, I was very excited and we had fun picking out an airbnb...which happens to have a 3rd bed. She called me all excited this morning, prefaced it all by saying that I could say no, she wouldn't pressure me, and suggested asking a second very good friend (F2). I said no, that I had considered it, but F2 LOVES to eat out when she travels and has stopped taking all Covid precautions. I can't imagine F2 would say yes, but even if she did, I wouldn't completely trust somebody who has never been particularly careful about Covid to remember to wear a mask anytime she's indoors. I've watched too many people who describe themselves as careful "just nip into a store" for something without a mask. The plane trip over will be a minefield in any case. F1 did NOT stick to her promise to not try to get me to change my mind. :( This is not like F1. I finally told her I would think about it for a day, but I've already decided to stick to my "no". I really, really wish she would have accepted my initial "no" as she had said she would!!!!!

It seems to me that your highly anticipated trip is turning into something unnecessarily stressful. Your first friend needs to respect and accept your feelings on the trip, which all started with you (and you were always transparent about your limitations and needs), instead of using passive aggressive tactics to make you change your mind. Personally, as someone who adores Florence, I would only go there if I could eat out and visit museums and mingle with people at cafes and piazzas, because to me, that's what Florence is about (outside of morning solitary walks and afternoon shopping). But you are not me and your friend is not you and since you were clear on where you stand with things, I think she needs to respect that. If she cannot do that, just go alone. Don't sacrifice a bucket list trip just to stay nice.

And to be clear, even if you stick to a mask everywhere policy, you still should be able to have an amazing time in Florence. It would take more planning and you may have to enjoy delicious Italian food at a private location, but the trip still would be totally worth it!
