Hi, my name is Dawn DeMendonca and I am the founder of and also director of DanceMode Schools of Dance.

When I was a child I danced as a hobby then took up dancing as a career and now I am CEO of two dance businesses, Im looking for other like minded individuals to network with.

The dance industry is evolving and requires new business minds to move the whole industry forward utlilising up to date technologies and expanding the industries presence in the media.

What problems are there in the dance industry and how can we solve them? What can we contribute? What knowledge can we share?

Im open to network with anyone who has ideas or something to contribute to this industry to achieve further progression that will benefit everyone who shares our passion for dance.

Introduce yourself .. lets chat and see what we come up with ! More minds are better than one !

Welcome hope you find it informative, very good minds on this DF :-)
My experience in my neck of the woods is that most dance schools dont work together as a whole to better the sport, they are so wound up with their own business that they dont look at the big picutre.

Very hard to encourage new blood!

Welcome to the DF.

Great to see others breaking out of that old school "your student-my student" mentality, and seeking ways to unite to better the biz.

I see that have deleted my link for some reason..

To all who teach or want to learn dance and wish to unite on an international level then I am the founder of a new online tv dance channel.

Even though I am based in London the site is for dancers worldwide. So please check it out.

Its time to think BIGGER !

i notice you are from all over the world... would you be interested to learn dance from teachers who live in another country ? if so why ?

do you think this is because most dance teachers jobs are part time ? or do you think its because dancers are just not simply looking at a bigger vision ?

Wish there was more of this thinking going around.

Ah ... one person at a time.
There has to be more of this thinking going around.. most dancers (esp dance teachers) are entrepreneurs.. they run their own businesses. Dancers are also obviously creative. I hope all these people find us on here ! lol If all the great dance thinkers got together and helped each other in our businesses then is has to be a win win all around for everyone involved and the industry as a whole.

i checked your web site. i noticed that you teach different type of dance.

here is mostly ballroom dancing.

and, welcome.

to answer on your question about learning from a teachers and coaches from different countries - in ballroom dancing that is normal. especially if you are professional dancer you have teachers all over the world.

why is it that dance teachers have this "your student - my student" mentality ? why are they so competitive ? I think it should be encouraged that dancer students learn as many styles as possible from different teachers to help with their preferred dance style ! Or do you think they have this mentality because they are only targeting students in their local areas therefore having a limited clientbase and fear the risk of losing them ? so if they fear the risk of losing them... does this therefore reflect on their teaching or dance ability ? which then leads on to .. should a good teacher also need to be a good dancer ? .... gosh so many thoughts

which is what my site is all about. inviting teachers from all over the world to teach classes online so students from all around the world can learn from them.

in ballroom dancing is their a change of steps slightly on how the dancers perform a particular dance eg.waltz, foxtrot etc depending on what country the dancers are from ?

no, steps are always the same, just you have different styles. American style and international style.

So many indeed. too many to go into here.....again. Having seen dance.mass, even if you specialize in a particular genre/style, the very nature of your biz affords you to be aware of many different forms of dance. This should make your involvement here on the DF a fun, interesting, and informative one.

Agreed DOI, worked with pros/coaches from a variety of countnries and areas of the world, and the teaching styles/schools of thoughts on how to reach the final product vary GREATLY from country to country, or ergion to region.

I agree. On my travels around the world.. every teacher does teach differently ! This is why I think DanceMass TV is a powerful resource for everyone.. teachers are able to see and learn different teaching methods from other teachers around the world. This can only benefit us all. Its always good to keep on learning new teaching strategies and implement new teaching techniques into classes.

I tend to use a fusion of teaching methods such as..
1) Teach to counts
2) Teach to beats in music
3) Teach to lyrics in song
4) Teach to name of action/step
5) Teach to imaginative stories

Do you use other teaching methods that are effective...if so, please share !
