Dance partner?

So how does one go about finding a competitive dance partner, as a female, in an area that doesn't have a lot of men in ballroom?

It's the old "needle in a haystack" problem. The needle may be there, but finding it is the journey. You might ask your Pro for help. And, you may have to be willing to travel to find the best potential partner.

  • Let as many people know as possible. Teachers, other students, friends, family, everyone. You never know who may know someone who knows someone.
  • Be involved in the community. Go to social dances and dance with everyone (see previous point). Go to competitions; compete in pro-am if you can or volunteer if that's not an option. Find out where the active dancers are and go there.
  • Keep training. Make sure that you're ready when the right partner comes along. Don't stop while you wait for him. Show every potential partner that you're the best he could ever hope for.
  • Consider taking out a (paid) ad on dancepartner.com It's not perfect but it's better than nothing.
  • If you're looking to compete in newcomer or bronze, consider starting with a non-dancer who wants to learn.

That could be helpful. Even if a prospective partner placed an ad, one of the main concerns would be to find someone who was "local."

It is not uncommon to find people willing to relocate just to be able to dance with a partner. And it is definitely a challenge but I have seen some great success stories. One person I know looked for years, and ended up with a handsome Italian, well financed, and they have been competing for a couple of years now.
