Carrie Ann Inaba got arthritis in the neck. Here's her short story (remove the spaces):

I want your opinion, among others, about whether this was preventable, whether this happened because of overload or bad techniques, whether this is a common threat.

The article is awful. The author always mixes cause and effect, disease and symptoms, trivial and hypothetical, required and inherent.

So far: you only can prevent some sorts of reactive arthrosis, but not most forms of arthritis or spinal stenosis. By the way what´s the use of it if your coach dont want to hear anything about that at all:

Outch.. a human knee can rotate only one time
Text is narrated by Geoff Hearn...presume that by rotation of the knee he means.. not that you rotate actual bones in the knee. Ballroom has its own terminology ...
Think, a minimum of orthopedic knowledge or terminology is preferable. All the more if a person is of public interest. Or should he be enslaved by the system?

"Arthritis" is a general term comprised of many disorders. Osteoarthritis is just wear and tear on the joints and there is no way to avoid that as we age. Some people are more predisposed than others. Dancers who have needed hip replacements, for example, have had non-dancer parents who also needed hip replacements. The best way to minimize the effects of joint breakdown is to keep the muscles strong, not be overweight and choose parents who don't have arthritis! Wearing high heels probably accelerates joint problems in the feet. Keeping the muscles strong is keep to preserving the joints.

I don't know of any athlete who doesn't have arthritis at some point...aging is unavoidable and the more you use your body, the more signs of wear you are going to have...but, the less you use it, the greater the other (mostly even worse) health issues you will have

Could not agree more! Have had arthritis pain in my knees and feet for years, some is definitely a result of dance. I've tried everything under the sun (drugs, ice, heat, massage therapy, physical therapy, glucosamine, biofreeze and all of its breathren, even surgery) - nothing has worked as well as maintaining strong muscles in the affected areas.
